So, what game does have better graphics?

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 11:55 am

Hi All!
So many of the graphics related threads are populated with replies that look like this "Meh, the graphics are nothing special, I've seen far better". I would like to put forth this question- where have yall seen better graphics (ON CONSOLE)? I know there are modern day PC games that blow it out of the water, but I'm really having trouble thinking of a Xbox 360 game with better looking graphics. Battlefield 3 maybe, but even that seems a stretch...
Thoughts?

Well, I believe the 360 is still running on hardware that is years old, so it can and can't have good graphics. My answer svcks I know

The term "graphics" is entirely subjective on the viewer. Things like polygon count, art style, environment, the type of game, etc, it all plays a part in what "graphics" mean to people, and what is important to people.
Some people like max polygons, some people like the art style to be what they focus on.
That's the reason I say that Morrowinds graphics are 10x better than Oblivions, because poly count is irrelevant if the art style is atrocious. I love Morrowinds art style, and I hate Oblivions bland western RPG landscape art style, so therefor Morrowind>Oblivion as far as "graphics" go.

Think of them all on a tiny bit deviating but equal level of crappyness.

I just find it hilarious when people think its appropriate to compare games across genre.

This open-world RPG's graphics svcks compared to the linear, scripted corridor shooter!

couldnt be more apples and oranges.

crysis 2 vs crysis 1, farcry 3 vs farcry 2 (they NEED predator, zip lines, and weapon placements or it is another sad disappointment)

etc

I guess Deus Ex: Human Revolution has better graphics.

But it's not open-world.

Crysis 2 does not have better graphics lol. Crysis 1 has better graphics than Crysis 2, somehow. I don't even know how that works, but it does.

Comparing Skyrim graphics with other games is like comparing good wines. A wine expert, or in this case "graphics expert", will see notable differences in these two different wines... but, ultimately, both are still good. Is your average consumer going to care about which good wine is better than the other? Probably not, but the wine expert definitely will.

The irony of this anology is that the word "wine" is one letter short of becoming the word "whine."

EDIT: Why was this moved? Weird... o.o

For consoles the graphics look great, however the PC graphics are just OK but I don't know what the big deal is because there will be graphic mods for the PC anyway. Some people just like to complain I guess.

With the DX11 patch and hi res textures Crysis 2 still looks pretty nice.

When people say "Meh, the graphics are nothing special, I've seen far better" they probably are talking about a PC game, so why exclude it?

Graphics quality on the consoles is all subjective, since they run on the same hardware that can't be upgraded.

DICE came out and said that Battlefield 3's focus on developing the game for the PC is why the game has been pushed so hard on the consoles. That being said, its still going to be far superior on the PC. I'll probably get it for the console though. :P

Battlefield 3 wasn't even on my radar until one of the theads around here showed me a recent video for it. I nearly creamed myself, the game looks absolutely beautiful, in both animations and graphics. It's the best looking game I have ever seen.

Is this about Skyrim?

If so, Red Dead Redemption, Assassin's Creed and Deus Ex: Human Revolution (semi-open world)

In terms of an open world game, Skyrim is pretty much king of the graphics. (On Console)

Really though, are there any other developers of open world games that Beth even has to compete with?

When comparing Skyrim to any console game, I would say the new Deus Ex and BF3 look way better of course, in terms of visual fidelity.

I think because we've only actually seen Skyrim content from the Xbox 360 version. We haven't seen what the PC version looks like, so the comparison to other PC games would be unfair.

So then why ask for a game with better graphics if it's so unfair to mention the games that actually have better graphics?

Because.....I'll say it again, we haven't seen what the PC version looks like, with supposedly higher res textures and antialiasing and all that good stuff. So many people are saying that Skyrim has crappy graphics when they've only seen what the 360 can do with it, so it only makes sense to ask what other 360 or equivalent (PS3) games actually look better. Modern PC games are graphically superior to every console game right now, but not every console game is exactly the same graphical quality despite running on the same hardware. When we see what the PC version looks like, then we can start comparing it to other PC games, but not before because that makes no sense

What about Rage? I haven't been following it at all but isn't it supposed to be an open-world game with amazing graphics on the xbox?

Wow. That sounded like a plug.
