After playing Witcher and Dragon Age, I have no interest in buying Witcher 2 or Dragon Age 2.
So it's Oblivion for me.
I tried Witcher 1, and I know what you mean. It's a RPG only if you want to RP "Geralt" as himself, and there aren't a lot of meaningful "skills" (6, or is that 9 "real" skills?), despite the absurd claim of over 100 total. Ultimately, you need to learn each of three attack types with your iron sword (about 5 levels maximum in each, or thereabout), learn them seperately with your silver sword, and then learn your three magic categories; everything else is just "perks". There are choices and consequences which in many cases amount to the same thing; more like the "illusion of choice". There are bows, but you can't shoot them. There are axes, but you only have "default" skill with them and can't increase it. Your armor is one piece, and it's "given" to you at the appropriate point in the game; anything else you find is worse. Each "area" is open-world, aside from the little white picket fences you can't jump over, but the overall game felt very linear and restrictive.
Meanwhile, I'll keep playing MW. I don't think I could stand to put Oblivion back in the drive again, even to try out the supposedly "much better" SI expansion. The TR project is due for another release in the not-too-distant future, which will make 3 sections of the Morrowind mainland to romp in.
I'm also playing a bit of X3:TC (not a learning curve, a learning "wall", and an interface that's painful to use, but good underlying gameplay), Hearts of Iron 3 (modded, because the game is STILL absurdly buggy after nearly 2 years, yet promises to eventually become the most comprehensive and detailed simulation of WWII ever created), and even some venerable old Close Combat 2 and 3. I may also get back to a half-finished game of original FO (far more demanding and interesting than FO3, but the clunky old interface and 3PP view is enough to drive me up a wall after a while - at least FO3 did a FEW things better). I may even break out Jagged Alliance 2 again, and take over Arulco.
