What happened to deflect and reflect damage?

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 2:48 pm

One thing I loved about my last character in Oblivion was the fact I was decked out in armor that would reflect damage.
I liked being able to run through caves and the scamps and rats would bounce off my shield or armor and be DEAD!

I have yet to find an item to disenchant so I can put it on some of my various dragon armors.
Has anyone found any of these items yet? If so where?

Is this something you used in previous games?

In the Heavy Armor perk tree, the final perk allows 10% (or 15, don't remember) damage reduction.

Personally, I don't miss the God-like ability to reflect damage. I always thought that this made things to easy.

I agree, but after a few playthroughs I like the option of becoming the ultimate tank and exploiting any found glitches and such.

There are absorb enchants and I think block or heavy armor have a reflect damage perk.

CK will fix it ;)

No srsly there is a mod called "I put a spell on you - More enchanting Options", that aims to do exactly that.
It's a good mod, but the authosr has stopped updating until CK is out.
But i'm pretty sure this feature will be added when its released.

You might not have noticed.... but they were in the Mysticism school of magic.
Skyrim conspicuously lacks this most useful of magic types... and the few spells of that school that remain have been partitioned off into other schools.
Absorb spells now only exist as enchants, and they were moved from Mysticism to Restoration (and nerfed) back in Oblivion.
Soul Trap has been moved from Mysticism to Conjuration.
Detect Creature has been moved from Mysticism to Alteration and split into Detect Life and Detect Dead
Telekinesis has been moved from Mysticism to Alteration.
The old teleportation spells stopped existing after Morrowind, and Dispel was removed after Oblivion... along with the Reflect Spell, Absorb Spell and Reflect Damage effects.

Funnily enough... Mysticism probably still exists in the world of Skyrim, but simply isn't available to the player character. The basis of this is that Mysticism is the main modus operandi of the Psijic Order.... and I'd wager that the Psijic "Time Stop" magic used in the College of Winterhold quests is PROBABLY a Mysticism spell... lore-wise, at least.

reflect was too OP and insane, especially if other creatures had it, cause as a mage you could cast a powerful spell on something and start praying it won't check that 1% reflect and kill your low HP ass in 1 second

and reflect melee damage is in the game already in the heavy armro perk section, 10% damage returned to attackers.

maybe a new ward like reflect with a 100% chance would be great cause you can at least try and dodge ur own fire ball if bounces back to you

I did, and the item too...Call me knucklehead if you wish!
In Skyrim I have a shield with reflect damage. Its 40% (i think) but the game wont let me disenchant it. When I load up the game again i'll get the name of it, but i cant find any mention of it on any of the wiki pages either.

I played an mod for Oblivion, chain beasts (warning advlt mod) where I had to explore an dungeon while silenced and unable to hold any weapons. she managed because of plenty of healing potions decent hand to hand and summon scrolls.
However at one place she was taken down and ended up in an James Bond type death trap.
Unable to move you was attacked by two mudcrabs, two reflect damage potions killed the mudcrabs, and after three minutes I was free to continue.
One of my coolest encounters in Oblivion

THIS. If reflect spell must be in the game, then at least let it appear as an active ability (as opposed to a passive effect as it was featured in Oblivion). Also and very important, reflect should be a "bounce back at the original caster" and not a "instant hit with no chance to dodge" thingy.

I also think that wards should have a perk to bounce spells back at the original caster if the player blocks the spell with good enough timing.

I might actually use my ward spells if that was an option. Great idea.

In the Heavy Armor perk tree, the final perk allows 10% (or 15, don't remember) damage reduction.
It's a 10% reflect, however it's applied after the damage is dealt to you rather than before, so it's not reduction so much as retribution.

Yeah, I had a couple of characters in Oblivion with 100% reflect (I used a mod that allowed enchanting with it), and it was just ludicrous. I killed the clone in Shivering Isles by just standing there and letting it hit me, which rather ruined the encounter as it was meant to be a test of your abilities.

On my magic users I hated enemies that could reflect, because it was an exercise in frustration as cast after cast got tossed back in my face until their reflect chance actually failed and I got a hit in. Basically, it only served to unnecessarily draw out fights that were already going to be somewhat long.

Pretty accurate except no chainmail bikini :) the curse also removed armor.
Pretty interesting mod with lots of unique scripting.
