What happened to underwater combat?

Why take that out of the game? It only made the Argonians almost completely useless.

The most annoying thing is when there are battle fish and you cannot fight them.

I haven't missed it, there really are no situations in Skryim where you would need it.

No idea, but from a defensive mindset, I think an Argonian is the ideal race. If you use the Vampire + Necromage + Atronach Perk + Atronach Stone combo, you're completely immune to all forms of magic, including disease, poison, Shouts, and standard magic attacks. You also have the automatic Waterbreathing ability, so the only forms of damage left for you to take is physical damage from falling or weapons and traps.

Not to mention vampires have the Night Eye ability too.

It would be great to have in some situations like, exploring a sunken ship, and then all of a sudden a wild slaughterer fish appears and chews on you while you make your way back to shore.

It is possible that underwater combat is being added in by Dawnguard, as there are data files referencing that. I don't have a link to a source right now, but this is old news anyway. Hopefully it actually makes it in.

When the make a water like dragon like J?rmungandr/Midgard Serpent/Midg?rdsormen then we'll need it, now we only have the slaughter fish and they aren't that dangerous.

I always thought it was pretty silly. Try swinging a mace underwater and tell me it makes sense. Go on, I'll wait.
Magic and daggers are plausible, maybe, or you know, SPEARS, but anything else? No thanks.

water restricts motion making it difficult to swing any weapon with force and the ability to talk and gesture well for spells and henceforth shouts. realisticly you shouldnt even be able to swim in armor of almost any type without drowning. stabbing would still be okay though if you are applying preasure directly against the enemy.

I've found a few sunken ships on the sea floor in Skyrim. They had a bit of loot but not much.

Since this is video game and nothing is that much realistic interms of the logic of this game, I say why not add some ability to fight under water??
I say this because I want some quest involving Argonians and maybe something like secret underwater Argonian comune somewhere in skyrim.

Before an enemy I needed to kill for a quest fell in the water and was far enough in the water that I couldn't kill him.
Sigh.

If we can't have underwater combat, then can we at least get water-walking back? That would be the end to your particular problem with a bow or a spell fired from the surface.

It doesn't really make sense for you to be able to swing a sword or shoot an arrow from a bow underwater. As for magic, we don't really have any real life reference to know if it's realistic to be able to use magic underwater, but in Oblivion we could only use Touch spells as I remember.

I was also pissed that they threw "waterwalking" spell away, but after playing 175 hours of Skyrim I think that I wouldn't use this spell almost at all. Swimming, crossing water is much less frequent than in previous 2 games.
But still, why did they throw it away? It wouldn't harm anyone to have that spell. It's just that alteration gets weaker every game since Morrowind. I loved it in Moro. Levitation, Jump and so on. They could add so many great spells "fishtail" for fast swimming, "froglegs" for jumping, "deerlegs" for fast running and so on.

I don't think you could use bows or ranged magic underwater in Oblivion. I do remember a few caves with Argonian bandits swimming around, though. That was pretty cool. And unlike in Skyrim, the slaughterfish were actually dangerous.

No, you probably can't swing a two-handed hammer underwater. Beast races could certainly use their claws, though. It would also make perfect sense if you had to draw a dagger to fight underwater. All the more so if there were something to kill. The water would actually be dangerous again.

I know. That was literally one of the first things I did. I went straight to the sea jumped in only to find endless nothingness with a few ships. For dlc they should expand on the lack of wildlife in the sea.

Still it's only a video game and previous ES allowed you to do it. If they added underwater combat and more enemies then it would actually make going into the sea worthwhile.

I agree they need to add a ton of content to the seas maybe in a future expansion ... that would be pretty cool to have an entire DLC expansion based on underwater or even ship based exploration but they would have to add a ton of content.

Worthless?

Khajiit are more worthless seeing as you can change the brightness in your settings, rendering night eye useless.
