What happens if I plug my Xbox Controller for Windows in?

Hi guys,

I've been playing with a mouse and keyboard. I have to have the setpresentinterval thing set to 0 in my .ini file. If I don't I get very large delay on my mouse. I will move my mouse and about 1 second later the game will respond. I should clarify this is not a FPS performance issue, both with V-Sync and without V-Sync enabled I have good FPS, but with it enabled the mouse fails to respond quickly enough to make the game playable.

Now I have read about all kinds of bugs caused by having the V-sync disabled via the .ini file that can't be fixed by having something else limiting your FPS from outside the game.

I'm wondering if I plug in my Xbox 360 controller for Windows, will it also suffer input lag or is this purely a mouse thing?

Other thing I'm wondering will all the onscreen tooltips tell me what buttons to press on my Gamepad rather than the mouse/keyboard? Otherwise I'll be completely lost, I'm not a usual Gamepad player, using it only for racing, so unless it tells me what buttons do what I'll be pretty baffled.

Please don't post reply about plugging it in and seeing for myself, I got to do a reinstall (for the 3rd time) because I removed the game after being pissed off by tech issues, so I'd like to know in advance from anybody else who might have tried using a xbox controller before I install the game (again).

Cheers!

I personally use my xbox controller for this game and it works fine. No input lag like the mouse and yes, the buttons are displayed properly on screen. You have nothing to worry about when using a controller for this game.

The onscreen tooltips show defaults even when you change the settings so any change (at-least on my game) never get reflected anyway.

Not sure if you'll get any input lag with the controller. Worth a shot to see. One thing I've seen reported though is if you do plug it up you may see KB bindings wig out and stop working in some cases.

Edtied:
Note I refere to tooltips when using pure KB & Mouse. I don't use a gamepad so no idea if that remains the case with that.

@McCleud - Yup, I'm well aware of the tooltips showing defaults when you change, thats one of the main thing I'm worried about, so many things about Skyrim make me want to :banghead:

@Gryph - Okay thanks, good to know, I might just give it a whirl tonight. Just to clarify, you actually tried this game with a mouse and got lag? Or have you *only* played this game with an xbox controller?

I started playing with keyboard and mouse and then I remembered my old xbox, plugged the controller in and I do think it is way way better.
