At what level should you start up your smithing?

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 9:02 am

I got to admit I was tempted to try out smithing abusing the fact that it was easy so I'm currently level 9 with smithing in the 40's which is not much but I wanted to get the daedric armor set but I highly doubt that I can battle a Daedric one on one with a level 9 two handed warrior with regular steel armor  . So my question is as what level that I'm would become capably to get my hand on the daedric hearts ? ( I play the game on apprentice if that's matter, also I wondering if apprentice are really that much of a different from novice? like how are they not a like as in mob harder to kill and you take more damage or what?)

You can get Daedric hearts whenever, as long as you do the Mehrunes Dagon quest. Don't worry about over-doing smithing! You can't do such a thing, unless you max it all out during your stay in Riverwood or something. I didn't finish mine until around 25ish, and even with a Legendary Dragonplate armor I'm not invincible.

Keep in mind the enemies scale with your level. If you spend your low levels leveling up smithing and not 1h damage for instance, the enemies will get stronger and your health might go up but but your damage would still be insufficient at your level of play.

With your difficulty picked however, I don't believe much would be a challenge.

Try to keep it on par with the lvl of your main attacking skill

I was sad to see that hvy dragon armor was not at least equal to daderic and that you could not make dragon weapons.

Also to my understanding daderic is pretty much Demonized Ebony... Couldent a grandmaster smith create Daderic Dragon armor???

Btw i was

Try to keep smithing on-par with your level - that is, don't start smithing certain items until they begin appearing in a merchant's inventory. Check the armorer's and weapon-smith's inventories every level. As soon as steel armor shows up, you can work towards that perk. Same with Dwemer/Dwarven (or, if you're taking the light armor path, Elven), Glass/Orc, etc. As soon as you see merchants stocking a certain item, you'll know its the appropriate level to begin smithing it. Not that it's bad to get an early start, but try not to stray too far off. If you're smithing Glass items and the merchants are still selling Leather and Steel only, then you know you have a problem.

If you only smith with what you find, you'll be conservative with it. Make what you need. Improve what you use. Hone weapons and improve armor that you plan on selling. Don't spam daggers and helmets unless you need money (which you won't make if you're buying the ingredients). Using hides, etc., you should be able to earn enough and make enough to have your smithing at 100 somewhere around level 35 or 40.

That's a little bit early, I would think. If you're aiming for a Daedric armor set, you should get one by around 50, assuming you're keeping with your level. 40 is okay as well, but 30 is a little early for a Daedric set, and if you max out your smithing by then, my guess is you've probably neglected some of your combat-related skills.

I'm level 49 and my Smithing is at 76.

I never really got into "abusing" Smithing. There were a couple times when I needed money so I made a bunch of stuff to sell.. but since then I've been pretty light on it. There was a point around level 30 where I decided to get rid of every non-quest related/gifted piece of armor or weapon I had and start from scratch only using weapons and armor I crafted myself or was given for completing a quest. I'm also going heavy into Enchanting so I can magicify (word I made up) all my home-made armor and weapons like a real OG.

Attacking the Smithing skill to get a ton of money and super strong armor early on in the game seems like suuuuuuuuuch a buzzkill to me. Don't see why people do it at all - or why they do it then cry that the game isn't fun anymore.

Whenever is usually fine for smithing but if you want Daedric Armor you might want to wait until your closer to level 10 before starting. If you don't want Daedric then start ASAP.

JUST got to 100 smithing, at level 48. Almost entirely organic (I started actually collecting the pelts off of everything around 85 smithing, just so I could throw together a bunch of leather gear and drive up a few levels, but never traveled all over the map buying up iron for exploitation or the like, only used what I had killed myself; also paid for some training from Eorland)

I must say, glad that I played through without inappropriately inflated armor/weapons, as it is, my dude is pretty tough to kill. The tension that comes with the possibility of defeat is nice. That's also why I run around with a sub-par Forsworn sword instead of the Daedric weapons I made. Give those mobs a chance

I'd recommend keeping a single crafting skill at 2.5x your level, approximately. If you're using two or three crafts, keep each bellow 2x level.
