What makes Rage unique? Why is it different to other post-ap

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 4:28 pm

For me it is the Mad Max driving aspect that Rage introduces. Its great as its not trying to be a racing game but features on a Mad Max type of world centred around travel.

Also, unlike many other post-apocalyptic games, where there is a major sense of saluaging around a derelict and empty world finding very little. Rage has all the materials and science available. You just have to have the right connections and coin to obtain it. The world is filled with all kinds of futuristic debris left from the former world and has its share of people scattered around who know how to put it to good use.

In many post-apocalyptic games it is a world where science is greatly forgotten in way of basic survival and it is a world going back to basic hand made tools and shelter other than that which they find or scavenge. Rage takes a different approach where people have the knowledge and readily material. They can make all kinds of home made gadgets out of what is common debris. The difference being is the absence of law and order to build a safe and stable society.

I agree, the whole Mad Max scenario is pretty realistic and believable. The incredible artwork for the canyons makes it pop to life too giving it a big sky western feel in which mother nature merely shrugged off what destroyed civilization. Unlike Fallout and other games most people use a lot more technology and don't just walk everywhere or live in half standing shacks like wild animals. All of which lends the game more authenticity and a sense of grandeur and hope to go with the relentless grinding struggle for survival against overwhelming odds.

I could easily imagine some future version of the game taking place in a wetter climate where plants have over run cities and people live in forests and open plains. For now though I understand they still have a lot of the desert artwork to use up and I'd just like to see more beautiful canyons, larger roads, and open vistas like in the first half of the game.

Rage for the iphone is just mutant bash, except it's not just inside the arena.

Anyway I agree, I want to see more mutant bash, and next time with more variety, I don't want re-runs, I want competitions that introduce new mutants time and time again! :)

I would love to have some DLC where you play the Hell levels of DOOM 3, updated for RAGE. Could even come out with the soul cube as a weapon.

Maybe not in this game (which I hope will have a lot more expansions before they move on to the next chapter), but maybe in future games (Rage 2) they could introduce an large mutant bash arena like the Colosseum in one of the future thriving cities as the main event for the city.

Yer, I think the game could some Doom style levels in some of the locations out in the bandit world.

I'd like them to expand on the mad max element of travel warfare. Also I'd like to see some more vehicles. Armored trucks as road trains to move freight and people through the lands. Thaqt and the Zeppelin idea is cool. Maybe seeing air balloons as a common thing could be good.

It's not dead, PenGun, just forgotten, like a Korean War veteran.
It's like... once the DLC is out, the poor survivors will take it in. I am one of them, and I'm darn proud of it, too.

Expansion is relevant anyway, because Rage2 is in the works after Doom4. Maybe then they'll be sure not to make a Rage1, lol.

You really think so. I think id may either close or become a console game maker.

There will be a DLC as the consoles will probably make it worth their while. I dunno but I would not be surprised to see D4 come out console only.

Unless they are prepared to make some serious changes they will not do well on PCs. I doubt they will do that.

I get beat on a bit here but I have a useful point to illustrate Rage. I have had my share of women in my time but I will never forget that the most beautiful woman I ever had was by far the worst six I ever had as well.

YMMV

 Actually I'm sure many people feel that way.

Well here's to hoping id goes back to PC heaven :foodndrink:

I think it would be cool if they expanded it like a Fallout game but kept everything that makes Rage, Rage

I guess you have never played Fallout 3 or Fallout New Vegas. There is sooo much more saluaging especially in Fallout 3 where you can make home made weapons.

Once again in Fallout games you have futuristic weapons available to you as well as futuristic armor and even a robot that will fight for you.

Rage has unique graphics and they look really good but what you mention has been done before and done better.

They cannot. Carmack has said the engine does not support an open world. Once again, it's a corridor shooter.

what makes it unique is, the graphics itself, when you see rage playing at its max and with minimal issues, its really breath taking, i hope they make more game in this type of engine. honestly i want to see dlcs. rage is like doom 3 in a savage wasteland which has borderlands humor.
