i like rpg's and i need a game to last me until gears of war come out ( i am going to do a deal at the shop where you trade in 3 games and get it for free: the 3 games are: borderlands, marvel vs capcom and alien vs predator)
as i said i like rpgs and ive heard from game sites that deus ex and dead island are both good rpgs and ive been looking at both for a wihile now soo
i really like the choices in deus ex and also how u can put skills into argumentations i also like the setting but its not open world and it might not go long enough 20-25 houres (still a long time but will it last me too gears and after that
i like how dead island is open world and everything i also like the setting too and how it's got multiplayer but u cant have choices in the game and talk too people (i don't know how long it is)
SO which one should i get

Neither game will last you until gears, you may get 2-3 playthroughs out of DX and then take a break for a bit. Seeing how Dead Island just came out, it's hard to say.

May have to wait on someone who has actually played it for a bit to hear their opinion.

Having played through Deus Ex twice now and am on my third playthrough I voted that. Great game.

So you have played through it twice in 11 days and it is supposed to last him 2 months?

If he does 3 playthroughs and only plays 1-2 hours a day...


Dead Island looks alright but we have no idea how long it'll be. Or more importantly, how good.

IGN gave Dead Island an 8, but in his review he compared it to Fallout 3 because you can loot stuff and do quests, which kind of makes me wonder if he knows what he's talking about. Also apparently the PS3 version suffers from worse graphical issues than the other versions :swear:

Eurogamer give Dead Island 6/10, Joystiq gives it 3/5. All reviews say it has bad coding, lots of escort missions (which I hate) and a ton of glitches but it's fun to play.

Dead Island just feels like Left 4 Dead to me, while DXHR is Deus Ex.

Well I no lifed one of those playthroughs. Sat down for about 12-13 hours straight and started the game and ran right through it. The story is amazing.

Funny, I've read most of the reviews and I didn't see anything about bad coding or too many escort missions. I have heard of a few glitches, mostly NPCs getting stuck or items disappearing with zombies (like if you throw a knife into a zombie and the knife disappears with the zombie). Most of those bugs should be fixed with a day 1 patch though. At least the AI glitches.

Most reviews seem to be positive with an average of about 7.6 / 10. The PS3 version seems to get worse reviews than the other versions.


That said, Deus Ex and Dead Island are two very different games. I'd say that Dead Island offers more gameplay hours since it has drop in coop and it's open world, but I haven't played it yet so I'm not sure. One reviewer played it for 40 hours before writing the review and he said he wasn't done with it. Deus Ex is a better single player experience for sure but I can't imagine it having a high replay value.

If you have 3 friends who are willing to play with you then I would recommend Dead Island but if you're just looking for a single player game with a fantastic storyline then go for Deus Ex.

Gears of War 3 comes out in 15 days. :whisper:

Anyway, I vote Deus Ex. One of the best games I've ever played. :wub:
