What Skyrim is missing.

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 2:17 pm

So I began this thread buy posting a reply and realised it needed more than a post. I have no doubt others have made these but here it is, what Skyrim needed/needs in my opinion (for what its worth)

  • Get rid of all the stupid glitches that break immersion (e.g. NPCs blanking you, random thiefs causing trouble etc.)
  • Put in spears, crossbows, slings and throwing weapons.
  • Make the faction quests MUCH better and longer (e.g. larger quests and more of them).
  • Bigger battles, meaning loads of enemies (at some points you understand).
  • More dialogue so that once you have done a quest the NPCs still have a use for you.
  • Let you save it so you can come back and edit you character.
  • Let you choose where your weapons are placed on your character. Also, if you dual wield show both weapons and if you have a bow hot keyed show it on your back (same for shields) when not in use (e.g. I have a sword in my hand and the bow on my back).
  • An arena...I am still dumb founded that this was missed out....fools.
  • NPCs to enchant and upgrade armour for you. This way I don't have to break role play to upgrade my stuff.
  • Horse riding combat (after all that spiel of, we will put it in if it has a use...well guess what it doesn't have a use! It would if you could use spears).
  • More of the same early armour variants (they added a few but they all still looked really similar).
  • Some purpose to marriage or just get rid of it.
  • Goblins! I miss killing them. I know we have Flamer but these as well would be awesome. Maybe some Minotaur. Please add!

So that's all I can think of from the top of my head.

This thread isn't meant to start a flame, so sorry if anyone is upset. I am just interested to see what the community agrees with me on.

Cheers.

All these are personal preferences. If you want it done ask it in a modding community.

I agree. And most of this stuff was in the gamejam video :) So we can hope it will be added to the game.

The main thing missing from Skyrim right now is DLC, I think most people have completed the majority of quests or have maybe started new characters; so now is the right time to at least announce something.
What I would like to see in Skyrim however is:
  • A lot more impact from my choices. - By this I mean if a become the leader of a certain guild I would like recognition for doing so, and this goes for the main quests as well....I should be recognised for doing all these great deeds, rather than it just ending abruptly leaving me thinking whether that was it.
  • I too would like to see Spears and some more ranged weaponry.
  • More depth within guild quests. - I really enjoyed the Guild quests in Skyrim, but to me, they didn't live up to Oblivion's standard's both in terms of length and quality.
  • The issue with dual weapons not being displayed on the character when sheathed. - If you have any dual weapons sheathed only the weapon in the right hand will be displayed. I would like to see that if you had two swords sheathed, for example, that they would both be displayed.
  • In terms of an Arena, as you mentioned. - I think an underground sort of style Arena would be good....maybe something similar to the Underground Arena in Spartacus: Vengeance.
  • A castle-type player house. - Something that has a lot of storage space, and more than 5 mannequins, a lot of weapon plaques and display cases, smithy, enchanting table, alchemy table (with and apothecary's satchel), and other necessities for a player home.
  • An expansion on the quests in Skyrim. - Things like additional guild quests, expansion on the Civil War questline, maybe some more quests to add depth to the main quests and include impact on your actions, and lastly add more varied Radiant AI quests.
I don't want to go too in depth about possibilities for future Skyrim content, but just wanted to give a general idea of what I would like to see.

EDIT: Also, some of the things that are listed were included in a video at Game Jam where Todd Howard said they may or may not be added as DLC.

I agree with some points. Others, well... You just need to boot Oblivion up again.

Guild quests are pathetic. So is the main one for that matter.
The Armour and weapon selection is okay, but I agree that its odd to see so many of the armours from Morrowind discarded completely. I'm sure bonemold and Chittin could have been squeezed in between Heavy and light with out too many dramas. Its obvious why medium was removed (totally pointless really).

Over all, I'd just like to see the game world make more sense with regards to the lore its built apon. How does so much just not exist in the game world?
How is there next to no depth when the lore is so deep?

This thread still lists issues that I consider infinitely more important than any of the issues you bring up...unfortunately, serious critique seems to be underrated here...

Eeeeh, I think you have a somewhat skewed view on how much the average player play.

I have read a lot of topics on the Spoilers section and the majority of players are in wait of DLC, while I did notice that there were quite a few others who have been playing tremendous hours without even touching some questlines. All I asked for in that comment was for Bethesda to at least announce something on DLC.

Result! This wasn't a complete [censored] storm. Although @papercut ninja I did state at the start that this is nothing more and nothing less than MY opinion. I am sorry my critique and that of the forum dwellers don't live up to your esteemed expectations. That thread makes some valid points though. I am glad its the general consensus.

@soop. I completely agree, chittin armour and other would be much better. another idea would be that the leather/skin armour you make actually resembles the beast it came from, with variation!

I don't know about leather armour variation in the manner you refer. The armours from morrowind and Daggerfall had roots in the games regional locations and lore. They made sense in the world they're in, Now in Light armour we have Leather, Elven and Glass. Heavy is a little better.

What is the point of Iron, Fur?
Its superseded before you even finish the tutorial!

The part about serious critique wasn't aimed at your opening post or your points, just that threads like those seem to die out while threads that just ends up with two sides bickering go on forever.

My only point relating to your opinion was that I think other issues are more important to sort out first.

I mean when you make an armour from Sabertooth fur it looks different to when you made one from wolf or bear. Then the deer hide, cow hide, horse hide, chittin bits and a host of others actually have some worth. They should also add the ability to make composite weapons and armour and then have lots of different variations there.

e.g.

Combine Ebony & Fur (Bear hide)
- Variation 1
- Variation 2
- Variation 3
- Variation 4

It's missing character depth. There has not been one character i really like in this game so far... The only memorable character is Ulfric but not even then...... In Oblivion you get close to Martin and come to hate Mankar Camoran and his ilk, you work with then witness the betrayal and death of Lucien Lachance, you become friends with Maglir from the fighters guild, and grow close with them, and find out the truth behind the death of the guildmasters son. The list goes on and on, the only guild that has captivated my is the Dark Brotherhood, but that was only during the last half of it... It's a great game, but the stories and characters need more depth.

Now that you put it that way.
I 100% agree with the Oblivion vs Skryim thing. In that vein anyway.

Just looked at the Game Jam...... everything in that needs to be added...now!

I loved the goblins, footprints, waygates (awesome compromise), werebear, Vampire lord and killing moves, skill trees for lyncanthropy and vampirism, water effects and lighting effects, ice and fire arrows, dark dungeons (could be really scary!!!) water flows into dungeons , spears. Pretty much everything! WINNING!!!

When are people going to realize that the people using this forum are not representative of the overall playerbase?

This game sold millions of copies. There are maybe a thousand people using this forum, with only a couple-hundred who could be considered active.
