BEGIN TRANSMISSION

OK, first, apologies if this has been reported/discussed before. I did a search of the forum and didn't find a similar thread.

Dateline: 2281
Location: North of New California Republic Correctional Facility, Central Mojave Wasteland
Time: Around lunchtime.
Witness: Boone

Situation: Courier has just decided he's bored waiting for the chance to go to the Big Empty, so he decided to head to the NCRCF and have fun massacring the Powder Gangers.

Curious event: Approaching the NCRCF from the North, Courier perceives a friendly NPC on his HUD. Upon closer insepction, said friendly NPC turns out to be a "Large Dog". Courier attempts interaction with the Large Dog, which results in the Courier being given access to the Large Dog's Inventory. This Inventory is, unsurprisingly, empty. Courier attempts to place various items in the Large Dog's Inventory. This results in a loss of Karma and the informative message: You've been caught pickpocketing! No hostile reaction ensues from the Large Dog. It simply continues to stare through the fence into the NCRCF.

Outcome: Courier and Boone are left baffled having never seen this before, despite hundreds of hours of wandering the Mojave Wasteland and many, many different visits to the NCRCF (for innocent reasons).

Anyone else hear of any other Couriers encountering something like this??

The Courier would appreciate any helpful or interesting comments from similar-minded wanderers.

Never seen that.

Btw, it's 2281 not 2081.

I've met that Large Dog before, if you go a bit away from there, you will meet a pack of them, but they are hostile.

What you did was reverse pickpocket that dog - as far as the game is concerned, it's still considered stealing, even though you gave it items instead of taking items away. You lose the karma and take the chance of the NPC going hostile. In this case it didn't attack.

This was a very common issue with Fallout 3 and the caravan merchants, where people would often reverse pickpocket better weapons and armor onto them to improve their survival rates.

Nothing to do but live with it. It's a very minor karma loss.

Might be a use for that damn dog biscuit I've been carrying for 40 levels....... time to go large dog hunting on my new DID character, he's near NCRCF and hasn't seen the dogs yet.

Go directly north of the NCRCF, that's where I found him. Good luck.

Yep, I know all about reverse pickpocketing, used to do it with live grenades for a laugh!
However, what surprised me was getting access to a live dog's inventory in the first place ... usually dogs are non-interactable in that way ...

Ok went to abandoned shack and retrieved Doggie treat. Went to NCRCF and found large dog looking at fence, he had a non hostile normal dog with him. I had seen the large one in previous games but he never had a normal Dog with him before.... weird.

Dropped treat on ground in front of both of them, nothing.

Reverse Pick pocketed onto both of them, nothing.

God mad, blew both dogs up.

It irritates me that damn treat seems to be useless. Would be nice if it made Coyotes non hostile, I always feel a little bad killing the families with the pups.

Oh well I'll be bringing it to OWB just in case. Just like i did in Honest hearts

Are you sure you weren't pick-pocketing a man in a dog suit?
