What's the deal with Rune?

Post » Wed Jun 06, 2012 2:38 am

Spoiler

Rune, in the Ragged Flagon Cistern. He tells an interesting story that seems like there is supposed to be a quest there. And an ominous note about his heritage is laying around in the area.
He seems earnest, and un-creepy, for a thief. But I can't find any follow-up. Just his story, and the note.
Think it's going to be part of some upcoming DLC? Like How Fallout: New Vegas referenced Ullyses, months before that DLC "The Big Empty" was released.
Or is it a unfinished quest like the Black Horse courier in Oblivion?

My guess is that the Thieves' Guild members (Rune, Sapphire, etc.) originally had loyalty quests to add them as followers, like the College of Winterhold students, but they ended up getting scrapped before release. The remnants of a lot of pre-release quests can be found if you look hard enough.

I heard a rumor that Rune was possibly going to have something to do with a DLC, but of course it is just a rumor and no evidence to confirm it.

Yeah it was a pretty disappointing moment for me when I found out there were no thieves guild followers, but its pretty clear they were initially intended to be followers. Another interesting note I found in Bersi Honey-Hand's safe was a note to attempt to rally the merchants to overthrown maven and the thieves guild, if you were with him you would place a white x on the door of your shop and a representative would meet them (most likely the player). I love the thieves guild but they neglected it.

They were all gonna have quests, most likely. Sapphire tells an interesting story and how she was [censored] by bandits.

Unfinished, probably. You have to realize Ulysses existed partly because Bethesda provided Obsidian with the courtesy of liscencing them for four DLCs BEFORE the game was even on the market and a success. Chris Avellone attributes how well-written and intertwined the New Vegas DLCs are to this business decision, since it gave them ample time to decide what they wanted to do with the DLCs.

Unfortunately, to my knowledge, I don't think Bethesda has planned on a certain amount of DLCs specifically for Skyrim, nor do I think there's any plan to make them intertwined. Quotes made it sound like they wanna take things one DLC at a time, so I doubt any character is involved with a giant oddessy that reveals their story.

[Rune, in the Ragged Flagon Cistern.

It's been a while since I talked to Rune, but didn't part of his story include something about coming from a boat/ship?

If so, there's a shipwreck a little south-east of the mages college where you can find a document in a chest that tells the story of a baby (whose father is the leader of House Telvanni - sp??) who is smuggled into Skyrim as his father, the rest of his family, and all their servants and guards are being killed in a war. The document has a foreword by the baby's nanny, who perished in the shipwreck, I think.

I have the document on one character and if I remember correctly, it leads to a quest trying to find the baby - now grown up probably as the shipwreck looks to be quite old. There are several bandits who live on/near the ship but easily disposed of, and the chest is very close to water's edge, or in the water if I remember correctly - somewhere between the bandit camp on land the the shipwreck.

I haven't done this possible quest yet because I keep forgetting, but will try to do it today.

PS: There are two shipwrecks SE of the mages college, can't remember which one.

Disregard the above. He came from a ship that wrecked near Solitude I just discovered. There are several wrecks up there, I'll go there today and figure out which one. There still should be a quest with the Telvanni story, though.

The book you are referring to is to be given to the market stall merchant that you set up with Brynjolf as your initiation quest to TG

I think all the Thieves Guild members are meant to have a side quest connected to them but the guy that was assigned the Thieves Guild quests must of thought "whatever" and just scrapped the side quests, MadMike32 is right, you can find a few remnents of scrapped side quest, infact quite alot of things were scrapped in pre-release, the ES team must have got lazy.

Never the less ES V Skyrim is still one of the greatest games of this generation and I stand by this comment.

Thank you, wasn't aware of that. Of course, since that guy was jailed, I guess that quest died for me.

Why would the quest die? You can enter the jail in Riften and still finish the quest. People go to jail, they don't disappear! =p

Yea, I was also disappointed that there was no follow up to Rune's story. I actually like the guy. He's cute hehe
