What is the difference between Ti and Fermi?

Post » Thu Dec 08, 2011 8:07 am

Sorry if I come off as horribly dumb, but I'm looking at this video card because I heard it's awesome: http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127592

But when I YouTube'd it too see some videos on it, the only thing that comes up is the GTX 560 Ti. Is this just another name for it or something? Any help is appreciated.

Fermi is the name given to the architecture found in the 400 series cards and subsequent refreshes (500 series). The GTX 560 and 560 Ti are different cards though. The regular 560 has one shader processor disabled (7/8), has slightly lower clocks and performs a bit below the 560 Ti.

It's a nice card, but I don't know enough about newer GPUs or current pricing to recommend it.

So, would this be a better choice, then? http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125363

In terms of performance, yes, but as I just edited into my original post I've been out of the GPU loop for a while now. There might be a card that offers better price:performance than either now. I'm sure someone will be along to help you out on that though.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.

I think a GTX560Ti is a better card if you go by price/performance ratio. For the high end cards you pay a lot more for less overall improvement.

I have a 560Ti myself, it's a great card.

I have a GTX 560 and its a good card for the money. I honestly don't know if I'd spend $50 CAD more for the Ti version (being its only 10% faster). I overclocked mine to slightly better than stock GTX 560 Ti performance, but then again you can over clock the Ti as well.

This is about the same speed as a GTX 560. $169.99 with the promo code and has a $20 mail in rebate. If you'd consider an AMD card this would be a pretty good buy given the performance.
