What... the... hell.. Seriously?

So i am lvl 34, really high sneak level and 100 in pickpocket, you know how guards are suposed to comment on your skills? Yeah, i joined the college by mistake because i thought Enthir was there(for a thieves guild quest), i didn't even enter the college! Farald asked me to shoot at a symbol on the floor, i bought the spell from her(the first magic thing i had ever bought in the game) and shot at the symbol and then turned right back around and left..
The problem is that now 70% of all guards say ''You're that one from the college! Heard about you!'' when i haven't even seen the insides of it with my characters eyes!
It really ruins immersion, i know it was my fault though but it svcks..
Anyone else have this ''problem''?

Yeah, the comments the guards make about your character are more hit-and-miss than in the past. They imply you're a nobody when you're established in your guild, and they imply they've heard about you when you haven't done anything noteworthy.

Yup, I hate how I save the world and am the master of every guild. But apparently I still "Fetch the mead"

Just thank god you didn't talk to the dumb broad in the courtyard. I went in there exploring with my warrior and talked to a lot of people. Then I started getting random mage specific encounters, mage duels and idiots asking for me to use a ward while they shoot fire balls at me. It's [censored] as my character has 100 magic and doesn't know jack about magic.

On the topic of dumb guards

I had a guard tell me "so you like using thee bow? I prefer the sword myself" problem is he had a giant battle axe on his back.

Similar situation guard says "I see you prefer one handed weapons, I never liked clumsy two handed weapons either" of course he had a great sword on his back.

I gave up counting ask the guards who mentioned knowing who I was and "hail sithis" either directly before or after arresting me.

I tink these comments are made based on certain conditions.
These conditions are quite ''low".

Level 30 in a skill will get you comments on that skill. Level 30 is about 5 skill-uses away when you start.
Joining a faction is enough to get comments on that, no matter what you do.

I haven't even touched magic with that character so i don't know why they would comment on magic though... i have like 20 in all magic stuff and i haven't even touched it,,,

You're lucky. You went into the College and people actually noticed. On my mage playthrough everybody says I have a magical aptitude and should visit the College of Winterhold, even though I'm one quest short of becoming the Archmage.

Are you talking to a mage other then the one in Whiterun? He's the only one I can recall suggesting you join the collage.

I don't remember whose comment that was, I haven't played this character for a while. However, I've noticed that every time NPCs incorrectly recognized my skills it had to do with magic: first the College issues, then "Can you conjure me a bed" when my Conjuration was at 23 or so. Odd.

With my first character I did basically what you did, but with the Companions, and got the companion version of the Mage's greeting from the guards for the life of that character. It was annoying.

With this character they keep giving me the, "Hail, Sithis!" greeting and I stopped doing the DB questline in the middle so when they say it to me I just want to tell them to shut up. What bothers me the most about this one is how would a guard know about my involvement with the DB? (I know how the devs do it.) I don't wear the stupid DB armor that says to the world, "Hey, look I'm a member of the DB!!" and I haven't killed anyone in a long time. It's dumb. I also get a lot of greetings about my low magic skills that I don't use. I don't walk around with magic spells glowing in my hands so why do they think I have magic skills anyway? I don't use them and I don't display them so why should they comment on them? They shouldn't. I wish Beth would just stop with the psychic guards. I like that they are friendly and a lot of what they say is nice and adds to the atmosphere of the game, but too many of the personal comments are too frequently inaccurate for them to be worthwhile. And even when they are accurate I still find them irritating because my character isn't obviously displaying the traits. The guard has to be psychic to know these things about me to comment on them and that irritates me (how does he know I'm a "sneak thief" if I'm not wearing TG armor or actually stealing and sneaking right then or how does he know I have enchanting skills). I really dislike psychic NPCs.

There's a mod that basically shuts up all the guards. Makes a huge difference.

Yeah, I am quite annoyed that they're still doing the werewolf comments even though I've cured myself of the dog disease like 20 levels ago. No, that's not fur coming out of my ears. No, I didn't tend to the dogs. And no, I didn't do any howling at night, so shut up about the rumors about werewolves being true.

Even after becoming Archmage and running around WEARING the archmage's robes, the Jarl of Whiterun's wizard was still telling me that I had magical aptitude and should go to the college of winterhold. Idiot.

One of my characters has done a lot of side jobs for the Companions, and still gets the "I hear you're the new member of the Companions, what do you do, fetch the mead?" comment from guards.

On the good side, they're impressed if you're wearing Dragon armor; I was doing The Forsworn Conspiracy last night and a passing guard opined that he wished he had a set of the stuff. In a somewhat comedic juxtaposition, I was on my way into the Inn to investigate the woman who'd been killed, and when I stepped out another guard started hassling me for asking questions.

I like it when a guard compliments me on my sword. "Thats a nice sword you have there. It's like...a sliver of midnight.
