What's the point of dual wielding?

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 6:04 pm

I'm rocking some dual wield maces right now. I got the thingermabob that gives me a bit faster attack speed with dual wield. It just doesn't seem all that much faster to be honest. What am I doing wrong? I have tried both spamming either the left or the right mace, and I've tried going left right left right etc. I can't see a noticable difference that would make me want to use dual weapons over say, a mace and a shield.

Can someone help me?

If you are high health you can kill targets quickly with duel wielding
If you are low health use a shield and play defensive

You should try using both at once, and timing them right. Personally, I use a sword in the off hand and a mace in the main hand, and use their distinct advantages over the other to work in unison. Strong power attacks with a mace and fast slices with a sword.

Power attacks I have noticed work quite quickly, and it would be interesting to focus in One Handed because of axe bleeding, mace crushing or sword crits, but what about non power attacks?

A proper perked dual-wield build is one of the deadliest.

It most likely is, but what about non perked? All I have is the first perk that lets me hit faster. Also, does that apply to regular hits, or only power hits?

Both. No point in going dual-wield if you're not planning on getting Dual Flurry/Savagery.

Indeed! The bread and butter of a pirate's life.

True that, comrade, it's just that I started a new character so I'm trying to work my way up :P It's just that I really didn't notice any difference in regular swings when I got the dual flurry. I know it does power attacked though. thanks.

As far as I know dual wielding attacks, if you have Dual Flurry, become 35% faster. This also goes for power hits. Correct me if I'm wrong but I found my Khajiit slicing faster in power attacks after I got this perk then before.

This, if you are dual wielding you better get it right and max out Dual Flurry and Savagery. If you are not maxing this out you might be better of with a random one handed weapon and a shield.

If you pump a ton of points into 1h, and have a lot of stamina, dw power attacks are a must for playing an assassin type character on higher difficulty levels. Especially once you get elemental fury shout to speed up your attacks!

There is a speed difference, with maces which are already the SLOWEST of all one handed weapons the difference probably isn't big. Say maces hit one time per second, and you just got that +20% attack speed perk, you would now be able to do 6 attacks in 5 seconds instead of 5, so that isn't huge. Swords are faster, you may notice a bigger difference with them, try it out. If you get +35% attack speed, and the shout elemental fury I'm sure you will notice a large difference then. Also by default using two weapons doubles your damage output so you will do significantly less if you switch to mace and shield. Continue to play around with weapon and shield combos, and find what you like. Best of luck to you.

A little tip, the dual power attack speed is dependent on the weapon in the left hand. So if you had a dagger in the left hand and a mace in the right, you will do a much faster dual power attack.

Like people have said, its all about the perks when dual wielding.

Yeah but I really hate that I can not use Elemental Fury if my weapon is allready enchanted. I mean like wtf, this is a shout and should work on a weapon even if it is enchanted.

Speed is dependant on the left hand weapon? Interesting, so if I have, say, an axe and a mace, the axe should go in the left? I'll put that in my journal for later. Crap, I'm out of journal paper. I'll just erase my notes on Seyda Neen, haven't been there in a while anyways.

I wonder if elemental fury works when you get the Extra Effect from the Enchanting tree ;)
