I went to vegas and met benny but I have a quest to go to primm for more information so what happens now?

No. Primm's quest and the main quest are separate.

You probably will only get inconsistencies through dialogue options (since you probably will still be able to ask about Benny while in Primm) but the quests there are all separate from the MQ.
