WW2 veterans day

Uh, kind of really close! (unless in NZ, 11 NOV is specifically for WWII veteran's day; if so I would like to know the details, that stuff interests me)
You're likely thinking of
Armistice Day, which was for World War
One. WW I officially ended on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918. Today in the US, 11 November is
Veteran's Day, which is for all veterans, regardless of time of service or particpation in any war.
WW
II ceased in May in Eurpoe and in August in the Pacific, with Japan signing surrender documents on 2 September 1945. Victory in Europe is generally attributed to 8 May (7 May for the UK, that's a rhyme, every time!), while Victory over Japan is ascribed to 15 August
