If you were physically in Skyrim what would stuff smell like?

The trees, the dirt, water, Giants, Dragons, Your neighbours etc if its in the game what would it smell like?

People would stink, but the air would be nice and clean - although the lack of bathrooms would lead to deffecation everywhere - :sadvaultboy:

Sweet rolls. Any more depth would kill the pace of your "adventure".

I imagine the environment smelling similar to what you'd expect in the wilderness. Clean, fresh air. People would smell of sweat and B.O.

Bears.

My Skyrim smells like bears. Unless my character is standing right next to a lavender bush. Then it smells like lavender and bears.

It was not that long ago in our world that baths once a week or once a month were the norm, if they happened that often. I think it was Queen Victoria that only bathed once a year, and she had lackies to heat the water and draw her bath. On top of that, clothes were washed less often than baths were taken, and most people only had one set of clothing they wore all the time.

A hundred years ago, most people reeked.

So, Skyrim outside of the cities would smell all clean and fresh and sparkly. In the cities, it would be a stench.

Agree with this at CCNA's post.

Nice out side, not so nice inside.

Falmers probably reallly stink bad, I imagine. Bandits too, but not as bad as Falmer.

Some of the flowers would probably be quite pleasant.

I'm guessing Giants and Mammoths would smell a bit like cheese.

Springgens like flowers.

and even farther back people bathed daily and had rough plumbing :goodjob:

funny how the world works huh

edit:
outside the cities things would probably smell like your typical forest. with that said im pretty sure riften would be the best smelling city because of the meadery and because breweries tend to smell rather good like baking bread or so ive heard

The houses and streets would stink because they use buckets for toilets and have no sewerage system.

Yep, the Romans were quite advanced, as far as Water and Sewage systems and Bath Houses and such. Even then, most of the bathing was done by rubbing scented oils on the skin and scrubbing the dirt off with sticks. I think it was Laurel that was used as it is a natural deodorant.

As I understand it, the rising cost of fuel to heat the bath water played a big part in it's decline.

Anyways, aside from the people smelling bad, the cities themselves would smell really bad, too. There's no real indication of sewage in any of them (except for Solitude), so waste is probably dumped in the streets.

Werewolves outnumber Khajiit in Skyrim, last I checked.
To say nothing of the mammoths. They must be veritable stink-factories.

Frigid, sharp air laced in fresh snow, pine, and musky mulch blanketing undertones of hard sweat and old blood. The warmness of the hearth and home; burnt wood and hardy food, are the last things carried on the wind.

ive heard that the people stopped bathing when christianity became big because the church deemed it a pagan ritual to bath daily.

i also take back the statement from my other post about riften being the best smelling i forgot that the canol is stagnat from being neglecting, but i still think the meadery would play a part in cutting down some of the smell
