What would you put in F:NV?

Post » Sun Mar 06, 2011 3:20 am

So with all of the empty space we find in New Vegas, what would you put down on the map?

Me personally I'd either build or refurbish Searchlight Airport, for some reason, I have a strange attraction to the way those big airplanes at McCarran look, I'd love to imagine a quest where you help some mechanics refurbish an airplane and take off for another location.

I think the empty space is the perfect canvas for my artistic energies so I'm going to attempt to build a town or two using the GECK sometime in the near future. If it works out, I'll see about releasing it as a mod (Or modders resource because I don't know if I can make the town 'work').

I would put a shack out there. A shack that had a key. A key that would unlock the goddamned Abandoned Brotherhood of Steel Bunker.

I'm serious.

In the same vein as the OP, I would have a Vertibird Hangar. There would be various repair jobs and hacking and all things related to taking back and restoring such a structure (and the 'Birds inside too, of course). Find [suchandsuch] part. Install [suchandsuch] part. Crack that computer and find out what [thisstuff] does. Etc.

Also, more Legion outposts and camps and more quests related to them.

And probably a *real* weaponsmith somewhere out there. Somebody who sells all the weapon mods and ammo without any randomness. Of course, you'd have to do quests for that smith to get those goodies unlocked. And I imagine that would be competing with the Gun Runners.

"Dynamic" faction migration: You can help Khan/Powder Ganger/Kings/NCR/BoS/Legion expend their "territory". Best example would be Nelson and Helios One; although Nelson was taken by NCR if you do Restoring Hope, you can go to Cotton Wood Cove to get the Legion to take it back. Or while Nelson is under Legion control, you can get them to attack Helios One

Another one would be more Prospectors hanging along the main roads

If I had a PC, I'd be at the computer days at a time, learning the GECK. Fallout NV is perfect for a dreamer, it uses so many skins and textures from Fallout 3 that I love PLUS a MASSIVE haul of pre-war style skins and textures, and for someone like me who would love to miniscale a 'pre-war' world, an airport, maybe a casino, and a clean unruined street, heck, it'd be beautiful.

@Devil- Do you mean the blown up bunker between Nelson and Forlorn Hope? If so, that's odd. I have NEVER seen it be locked before.

It's perfect! A little town made completely of 'nice' pre-war textures and meshes. I'll construct a wall around it and make it look as close to Tranquility Lane as I can.

A small town sheltered from the harshness of the wastes. You enter and open trading, or not. You can ruin the town or be its salvation.

I've got a lot of work to do.

You have no idea how much my imagination huffs and puffs with jealousy at PC users. I'd love to build an entirely clean (IE No trash or cans all over the place, I'M LOOKING AT YOU INTERERIOR FLOORS OF MCCARRAN INT AIRPORT)

But thats brilliant, build two models, one being clean and perfect, the other should you destroy it with fire/bomb. My idea was always a Pre-War Town built and under it a massive room of engines and turbines, imagine those huge ones inside Hoover Dam, and they keep the city and it's security turrets fully functioning. With your idea, you could make it so the town 'suffers' as the Wasteland does, or become its idolized hero for protecting it.

Yes, that's the place. After the patch, it was locked up tight (for five different playthroughs this has proven to be true for me). Very annoying. It was unlocked before the patch and then mysteriously sealed shut.

I'm sorely tempted to get a new PC and the PC version of this game so I can mod some stuff. I haven't modded since Neverwinter Nights but despite that I think I could do some very cool things with the GECK for this game.

My god I have way too many ideas of what I'd put:

A functioning toy shop run by Raiders: Just seeing them with their grim armour and drugs etc surrounded by teddy bears and dinosaurs.

A Caeser's Legion "Rome" : Like a small megaton sized town of self made scientists, well treated women and culture. Just to show the benefits of the Legion

New Vegas Themepark: Rides include: Molerat Race betting, Dunk the Ghoul, and a funhouse.

Vegas Asylum: Now owned by scientists housing broken robots(a.k.a ones with mental disorders)

Secret Vault: Vault of a secretive society you can join (and be given certain member perks on the surface)

  • Well, a ghoul casino on the strip.
  • Some Super Mutant bouncers at various casinos.
  • A new smaller faction that has lots of patrols out in the wastes which focus on high-tec energy weapons and unarmed weapons.
  • That the casino in Primm becomes functional.
  • Prospectors Den in Goodsprings has at least a slots machine.
  • That powder gangers patrols are a little more spread out across the area so that they aren't exclusive to the area around goodsprings.
  • A mods merchant around the strip, freeside or generally around new vegas (don't know exactly where to put her) which exclusively sells weapon mods.
  • A new store on the same street as Van Graffs and Kings which exclusively sells drugs and by that I mean all kinds every time, even Hydra, Turbo and Fixer.
  • A shaman or alchemy expert which sells tribal healing items at Cottonwood Cove and one at Nelson.
  • An arms dealer that sells machete's, throwing spears, throwing axes, etc at Cottonwood Cove and one at nelson. (All tribal weapons)
  • Would be nice if we could intercept Sir Inculta before he does his "lottery" thing at Nipton and thus save the town.
  • Would be nice to have a jobs feature which could include courier work for Nash at Primm, caravan guarding at Novac or for Crimson Caravan, pest control at Novac (let Boone and Manny take a day off.), store guard at Van Graffs. (Of course this would require a lot more work than the others.)

I don't have this game on PC, but one day will...............because adding to this game would be too much fun. As I haven't ever seen the GECK, I don't really know it's capabilities. Obviously I can assume a bunch of stuff (building physical things), but can you add NPCs and give them dialogue options? Does this allow you to create new quests? Where NPCs have actions and reactions assigned to them? One of the most lacking parts of NV for me is lack of actual NPC dialogue. eg. In the Ultra-Luxe it would be nice to have more conversations not just associated with the ONE quest. More with the barman, or maybe a few of the gamblers/travellers. Even if it didn't pertain to a plot point, just more background info, or insight.

I don't want to start judging/comparing F3 and NV but I seem to remember there being more options like this in places like the ghoul Underworld in DC or Rivet City. They had a bunch of little quests/dialogues that gave those locations and associated 'people' a lot more depth. My current/3rd character (haven't actually done the complete quest with any of my characters yet) is the first one to go into the Ultra-Luxe, and she is the only real 'city-slicker' of my characters, so I was hoping she could make more use out of that casino. She is a pretty new character, so I haven't done many Strip/Freeside quests with her yet. Haven't been into The Kings at all yet either, so looking forward to going there with her.

Well, you can add dialogue, but apart from walking by 'hey' generic NPCs, you'd have to add any new dialogue yourself. The bits of the GECK I've seen you can set animations to them, reskin textures, build cells, etc.

Right - I'd want the ability to add/write my own dialogue for conversations, not just passerby-greetings (which are pretty stupid imo, usually very out of context). Obviously it wouldn't be audio like the original game, but it would be fun to give people/places more depth by making almost every NPC a conversation opportunity, and if a little quest can be created in geck then that could be added to the dialogue. I like the idea of hiding quests deep within dialogue so, only after a lot of responses and probably some sort of skill check, the task the npc needs help with (or whatever) shows up.

Good thread, it's expressed what I've been thinking while exploring NV, it's a canvas.
I've already begun some simple builds that fit with the world(sorry guys, they are a secret until completed and released), but there are things I cannot do that I would like to see, just a little too advanced for me, things like the caravan traders going to goodsprings, I mean where does Chet get his stock?

I really would like to see a megaton town, no not exactly like FO3, perhaps one that's been built from campers, cars, busses and trucks.

fix bugs first. add content after.

however assuming the bugs get fixed and the blue moon comes up the content i would like is more showings by the casinos and them working in concert with gangs or specifically against them in shoot-outs across the towns.
Rogue robots from pre-war tech have their protocols restarted resulting in robot invasion of someplace somewhere.

Add more computers to hack. take locks off first aid kits. add in drug boxes that would be locked.
fix ingredients and stats for survival crafting.
fix energy weapons power, reduce energy weapon ammo depletion, reduce number of energy weapons but have them start in higher condition (i mean it's a frikking laser-gun who would misuse it?)
Fix explosives damage against armoured targets.

Train-shootouts, a whole quest chain for setting up a railway to rest of US, highly contested area, allows brotherhood and enclave greater strength. Make great khans actually great, make them more dangerous/ more interesting as a whole.

Either nuke freeside or revamp it entirely.
remove the lol ridiculous number of load screens for the strip in exchange less effects in strip.
The smaller towns see more action, more locals around them more plots built around trade with the towns. add in a bank to the strip, make plots around the bank, local gangs fight over who should have most influence over bank lending.
more farms, larger OR greater numbers of caravans trekking to bring in essentials.
etc etc...
