What do you think about a Friendly Fire Toggle?

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 6:09 pm

I have recently started my new warrior on Master and it's quite a challenge but the one thing that fustrates me is my accidental friendly fire attacks. Sometimes I am trying to kill something and someone else walks right in front of me and I hit them. I want a follower to be a tank/distraction sometimes but not a shield.

I will be slashing a way at my enemy and then Lydia will walk in front of me and I will hit her accidentally. I once was saving a Stormcloak from the Imperials and he ran in front of me and I hit him and he became hostile. I just find it fustrating that I keep hitting them, sometimes I am facing the enemy and attacking but somehow my follower tells me to stop hitting them, even while they're on the side.

I was just wondering what you think of the idea of having a friendly fire toggle. It may not stop the fact that your follower or others get in the way but at least it won't damage them or cause them to become hostile.

I get so annoyed when the damn follower walks in front of me. I was slashing away at a frost troll when I kept hitting my follower. Also when I was doing the Companion quest I kept hitting Farkas when he was in the way. So annoying.

Sounds like a good idea. When playing on Master you have to try and kill something as fast as you can before you get hit and then your follower takes all you blows for the enemy. I wish I could just ignore hitting them while attacking. So fustrating when I hit quest followers too.

what if your a mage? it's even worse for mages that use expert spells what do you do then? don't hit them it's and aoe spell. don't use the spell it's the only viable destruction spell endgame. don't use a follower but I need a tank and I don't use conjuration. friendly fire is stupid in the first place I say get rid of it it's especially annoying when you have a follower that uses expert spells of you use expert spells

Have to agree with this. I made a destruction mage and I used a follower as a tank but I kept damaging them with my aoe spell.

It's one of the factors you need to take into account. If you had a sword and were slaughtering your enemies with your friend, you wouldn't say 'oh, and you aren't allowed to get hurt if I hit you with my sword' to your friend!

This toggle should strictly towards your damage towards follower only. A more detailed slide menu is better. Like you can choose whether it is your magic damage, melee damage or arrow damage they immune to.

Nah. But what should have been implemented from the start is a decent AI. They should know to stay out of your line of fire. Every single time I use a follower and I'm using missile weapons, the follower seems most likely to be in my direct line of fire than on the enemies flanks or rear. This is simply bad business.

What kind of friend walks in front of your blade. I thought he'd go to the opposite side and attack.

That angle can be used for multiplayer but not single player.

A toggle for friendly fire would be fine.

That's why I like Marcurio so much. He stays out of the way. Lydia is the worst. I was always killing her with my mage. I finally just made her stay at home and started using conjured helpers. Next time I make a mage I'll just take another mage. So much easier. I do think it's stupid that enemies can't kill them but we can. How the hell does that work? And why do I have enough control over my spells not to hurt myself but not enough control to keep from hurting my friends? I can understand if they walk in front of a fire ball maybe but why does chain lightning have to hit them?

THAT is it exactly.

all the other reasonings and explanations don't address the real issue: it is gamesas's poor a.i. implementation that is at fault.

it's that simple.

Always remember to spycheck your follower. I was using chain lightning and it kept hitting my follower. Good thing she was an essential, so I didn't kill her, but she quit and I had to go back to Riften to volunteer her again for the service. And I stopped using chain lightning.

There should be a toggle for whether you can damage your followers on Thursdays or when the day of the month is a prime number.

Making followers immune to player's spell & damage is simple. The catch is, you can still hit them, but your attacks do no damage. Making them completely ignore damage is something quite tricky, and not realiable

We can't have toggles for every possible feature in the game. I expect the next "toggle" thread is going to ask us if we want a toogle to toggle every feature of and on. There has to be a limit to how many features a game can toggle. At some point we just have to acept the game and play it, or move on.

You might have to level up sarcasm a bit.

Mods and Halo Custom Games somewhat prove you wrong.

Yeah, It really is annoying, but this increases the difficulty of the game, which for me at least, is a great point.

When I know I will have a battle ahead, and that the follower will just mess up, I use:

Aim the follower - Press (and keep pressed) E - Look for a safe place - Wait Here - Kill the Enemies - Aim the Follower - Wait him stay close of you - E - Follow Me

This would of been much more helpful.

I might have to try him on my warrior, as long as he doesn't attack me instead (since I'd probably be getting in his line of attack) but I need a tank right now as I get destroyed on Master at the beginning.

I don't actually find it too bad and I don't always hit them as a warrior but when I do it's annoying. I don't think this makes the game more challenging for me because sometimes my follower gets hit even when they're on the side of me and I'm directly facing the enemy. Sometimes I power attack and they walk straight in front of it.

I swear, there is a magnetic field that svcks my weapons into my followers'... Poor Meeko. I was mid-power attack with my ax when he went for the Thalmor wizard.

You know, I wouldn't mind a toggle... But I'd settle for not being the main reason why they died to begin with. Every. Time. It svcks knowing that if they do bite the dust, it's pretty much always your fault (with some aoe spells/breath weapon exceptions).

like i've said- i don't care about aesthetic or toggles to get rid of annoyances. to me that's what killcams and 3rd/1st person grievances are.

i'm talking about those few, important one's that completely change the actual gameplay.

for me, that means 'hardcoe' type toggles and the appropriate hud settings, options, etc.

Proving Honor? Ugh, how many times did I hear Farkas saying "Watch it, brother!"?

Now Fallout 1, you had to watch your companions so they didnt hit you. Ian was especially notorious for firing at enemies with you in the line of fire.
