What do you think rage 2 should add to the game?

Post » Thu May 03, 2012 1:18 pm

So what do you think "id" should add to Rage2 and how should they continue it?

personally i would like the opening video to be a POV shot of you walking out of capital prime (i think that is what it is called) as the character from the first Rage and there either being loads of authority telling you to get on the ground etc. or some authority being blown up by the resistance. as well in terms of gameplay i would like it to be possible to hire mercenary's (whom can die) as well a host of new weapons and perhaps the option to join the authority? "i don't like not being the most technologically advanced :(" AND FINALLY! multiple endings depending on key choices made during the game such as: if a specific character died on a mission with you, you do not help the people of a town and so on.

any ideas guys?

1 128 bit HDR with http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eye_adaptation
2 Full screen mostion blur
3 Object based mostion blur
4 Bukeh depth of field
5 detail texture
6 bicubic-upsample
7 Perfect anti-aliasing
8 Dynamic http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volumetric_lighting effects
9 Uncompressed texures that the developers used. (150 gigs so should be optional)
10 Screen-Space Reflections

Technical aspect aside I'd like to see them flesh out what the player has to do a bit more. They chose to walk down that road so I'd like them to offer more even if packaged the same way (non open world engine), Borderlands was only sections connected by loading screens and not true open world, yet felt more alive than RAGE. Making open sections on foot more attractive would be nice, in RAGE there was no incentive to do so for long because there wasn't much to find.

As 'quake0' mentioned, I'd like to see a couple extra post-processing features.
Weapon customisation also, like in Crysis 2.

1. Motion Blurring (Camera & Object) http://www6.incrysis.com/images/incrysis_motionblur_dx10.jpg
2. 'Detail Texture' (Upscales textures and tiles another texture which some fine details, on top of the source texture giving the impression of a high quality texture) Example: http://udn.epicgames.com/Three/rsrc/Three/TerrainAdvancedTextures/DGDetailOff.jpg http://udn.epicgames.com/Three/rsrc/Three/TerrainAdvancedTextures/DGDetailOn.jpg
3. Reflections http://media.giantbomb.com/uploads/10/103262/1820173-ssr1_on.jpg
4. Volumetric Lighting http://www.thefs.net/images/crysis-pc_tree-sun-rays.jpg
5. Volumetric Clouds (aka NOT faked into the sky texture) http://www.freakygaming.com/gallery/action_games/crysis/island_view_dynamic_clouds.jpg

what about a busy hub of activity so the open world is almost flooded with people with a mix of backgrounds e.g walk down a dodgy path and you might find someone being mugged or someone might try and mug you or walk a different path and find someone whom is holding a contest etc. make the open world feel more fun.

The only thing there I can see being added is detail textures, because of some very blurry textures.

The rest, though, as you know yourself is what Crysis has, for a good reason. Cryisis tries to look like reality. Rage, on the other hand, is a painting in motion and it's supposed to be, it's not supposed to look real. Even though those effects can be done to fit Rage just fine, I highly doubt they'll implement them being as though Rage indeed looks like an amazing painting in motion

The engine actuly supports
HDR
Mostion blur
Depth of field
and cloth simulation. They just don't have them in Rage to keep it at 60 frame per second.

I never noticed motion blur, but I definately noticed the cloth simulation (flags at the entrance to the ghost hideout in the beginning - try to shoot them, they will react :) ) and the DOF-effect when you stand right at the exit of the bar in wellspring.

Probably right, damn it I wish they made the PC version superior in graphics, the way they're supposed to. Any good cumputer these days can have all those effects and run at 60fps. These computers are owned by gamers.

Well aside from continuing the story so it feels more complete at the end, I would like to see more destructable items in game. Perhpas level design that doesnt rely quite so much on invsible wals, rather implementing more natural barriers

I've been wondering what all the engine supports. The particle effects, shadows, and lighting effects are already impressive and with HDR, DoF, cloth effects, and higher resolution textures the remake of the original Quake could have artwork and effects that would make an RPG fan turn green with envy.

List:
*More weapon upgrades
*Need weapons to ahve unique attributes to have a reason for using them (example authority MG COMPLETELy outdoes the standard AR in all fields. If standard AR had some sort of gimmick it could make bothj useful.
*More schematics! ( cant get enough)
*More in depth exploration of areas, like dead city for example
*interchangeable armor so we aren;t stuck with the same suit we picked in the two hours of the game
*More authority tech
*More steampunk elements.
*Make a silent assault an actual option. by the time you throw your first wingstick everyone in the room knows your there.
*repeatable missions with new or respawning LOOT

thats about it for now
