What's your favorite sport

What's your favorite sport to watch / to play?
For me it goes like this:
Watch: hockey
Play: tennis

I think I watch more than I play, but man, when I can choose between watch a game or go play myself (even alone, against the wall) I prefer to play.

Watch: Baseball, when I am exceptionally bored, simply because I know all the rules.
Play: I don't play anything sufficiently organized to be legitimately called a sport.

Soccer to those people.
Fun fact: most nations in the world actually call your "football" soccer, or some derivative of the word.

That's not true. The americans must be one of the very few who actually calls it soccer.

Watch: Nascar usually when there's nothing on TV.
Play: Fencing. I use to Fence a long time ago, Saber was my favorite class but I dislocated my Fencing arm in a non-related incodent and I had to retire. I could take it back up but there's no close fencing classes near by plus I need new equipment.

My first love was the NFL but my greatest passion is the MLB.

And a sport I've been a follower of since the mid 90's is MMA so I consider the UFC right up there.

You would think so, but the name "soccer" actually originated in... England!

Anyway, I did a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Names_for_association_football#Countries_that_call_it_football on Wikipedia just now and although I will admit that I am half wrong, the word "soccer" is used interchangeably with "football" in almost every country in the world, and in a number of countries (notably the USA, New Zealand, Australia, and Canada) it is the dominant term for it.

I do know that "soccer" derives from England, and is a shortened version of "association football".

It doesn't surprise me that they would call it soccer in countries like USA, New Zealand, Australia and Canada, but I still have a hard time imagining "soccer" being used intechangeably with "football" by almost every country in the world. I have yet to hear any europeans (or even people in Asia) call football "soccer" instead of "football" intentionally, unless they're on TV and speaking towards an international audience (like during the World Cup).

I do believe the only reason people occasionally call it soccer is when they have a wide audience. I don't think brits say "Hey lads, let's go play some soccer after work" or something, surely they would use "football".

I'm not denying that no one calls it soccer though, I just believe that 90% of europeans would call it football.

I don't know anyone who calls it soccer, at all. When I am speaking English with my foreign student friends (most of whom are from other parts of Europe) everyone calls it football. Unless there's foreign students from the States around, to avoid having to deal with their confused looks.
