You would think so, but the name "soccer" actually originated in... England!
Anyway, I did a http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Names_for_association_football#Countries_that_call_it_football on Wikipedia just now and although I will admit that I am half wrong, the word "soccer" is used interchangeably with "football" in almost every country in the world, and in a number of countries (notably the USA, New Zealand, Australia, and Canada) it is the dominant term for it.

I do know that "soccer" derives from England, and is a shortened version of "association football".

It doesn't surprise me that they would call it soccer in countries like USA, New Zealand, Australia and Canada, but I still have a hard time imagining "soccer" being used intechangeably with "football" by almost every country in the world. I have yet to hear any europeans (or even people in Asia) call football "soccer" instead of "football" intentionally, unless they're on TV and speaking towards an international audience (like during the World Cup).

I do believe the only reason people occasionally call it soccer is when they have a wide audience. I don't think brits say "Hey lads, let's go play some soccer after work" or something, surely they would use "football".
I'm not denying that no one calls it soccer though, I just believe that 90% of europeans would call it football.
