What is your formal wear?

Post » Sun Dec 11, 2011 1:23 pm

What do you wear to formal occasions?

Mine:
Polo shirt
Either black jeans or slacks
My belt with the civil war style "U.S." belt buckle
Dress socks
Shiny black loafers

I'll probably buy a real suit or something if I ever go some where fancy, because so far the most high class place ive been was to see Spamalot the musical.

I have a suit, not sure who maked it but it cost alot. Didn't want to buy it but people look down on you if you wear jeans and t-shirt to a wedding.

Forma' what what ?
The formalisest (is that even a word?) stuff I wear is my work clothes: Black long sleeve shirt w/ purple/silver/red silk tie, black trousers and shiny polished shoes.
Any other occasion its always baggy denims, some form of Tshirt (usually colourful of with designs), White trainers and sometimes depending on weather a leather jacket or white Army camo jacket < it is sheeer awesomeness.

I have sometimes thought about changing my style and buy fancy suits and stuff but then looking at the price tag compared with my bank balance, I don't want to purposely kill my cash flow.

Me? Suspenders, black belt, black jacket and bowtie with a white ridged shirt, and dress shoes. For more business suits? I either wear a pinstriped suit with various straight colored ties (I dont really do weird patterns aside from maybe striped ties), or I wear a brown suit with a red tie or a winning poker hand tie.

I wear an armani suit.

Armani's suits. <3

For me, it depends on how formal is required. I have some floor-length evening dresses for the properly formal occasions. Otherwise, a neat dress or something works. I also have too many different pairs of heels (one could argue you can never have too many pairs of heels, though <3), so I've always got a pair that suits whatever I'm wearing.

Jeans or black trousers, a long sleeved top and black shoes. If it's cold outside, I wear a jacket on top of this.

EDIT: Oh, just realised it said formal.

I wear a suit minus the blazer, or a full suit, depending on what the occasion is.

It's truly sad that no one here knows what formal means. If you receive an invite that says formal wear on it, you turn up wearing white tie, no exceptions. Wearing a suit or a tux is such a faux pas.

I've got a few nice dresses and one that I'd call a proper gown. For things like funerals I'd just wear my work trousers and a dark modest top.

White tie? That's only reserved for the highest of formal ocassions. I've never had the ability to go to such a high social formal event. I'd love to go to one with the proper attire. I'm quite fond of immitating high culture of a true gentleman. IMO proper gentleman is more masculine and attactive an image than hurr durr jock. I just wish ladies here felt the same :sadvaultboy:

I've only been to one, a family wedding, and the cost of the suit hire was absolutely ridiculous. Was kind of annoyed when I got there and a bunch of people on our side of the family were wearing kilts. I could have worn a formal kilt godamnit!

I just like using the phrase faux pas whenever someone confuses semi-formal and formal.

For me there is no semi-formal. Job Interview or meeting the Royal Family, it's all formal for me.

If it was white-tie (as somebody else has pointed out), then I'd have to go get me the appropriate clothing.

However, since you're wearing a polo shirt, I'm assuming you mean semi-formal, or maybe semi-casual. In which case, what I wear pretty much every day, black derby shoes, dark slim jeans or my black mohair trousers, a long-sleeved shirt, and either a cardigan or waistcoat, depending on how formal we're being here. I'd love to wear a full 3-piece suit everyday, but it'd be silly considering what I actually do.

Just realised my avatar is me wearing what I'd class as semi-formal (the jacket is hung up out of shot)

I don't have any suits of my own and who knows when I'll need one/be able to afford one that suits my tastes. But for formal stuff I usually wear a dressy shirt, sometimes a jacket like dress shirt over a black t-shirt and I have a couple pairs of black dress pants and shoes that go with it as well.

Title said formal.

I just wear a polo cause it's the fanciest thing I have, I can't afford one of them ridiculously overpriced suits :(

I rather like the idea of people turning up for job interviews wearing ballgowns or top-hats-and-tails. That sort of thing should definitely be encouraged.

Wouldnt matter if it was a pizza delivery job, my usual choice suit for an interview setting is my smokey grey suit with thin pinstripes, handkerchief in the left briast pocket, and usually my silk grey tie, even if I dont succeed at the interview, I still look like one sixy CEO with the Joie de vivre. Evening ladies.

I only do weddings and funerals...so I bought a sensible black three piece suit w/ tie.
Posh is not me by any stretch of the imagination...and nobody invites me to anything 'formal'....in the recreational sense.
