What's Your Play-Style ?

Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 2:32 am

Tell me how you play (or intend playing) Skyrim. Would you play it as, IMO, ideally it should be played (a virtual-reality life adventure), and enjoy the nail-biting feeling of the possibility of really having to accept the consequences of your decisions, good or bad. and with no re-loads, if at all possible. (See my recent post: The Life and Times of Lester B. Krottch). I believe such an approach does add an extra depth of enjoyment ( allowing, of course, that there are times when you cannot prevent getting killed, or the game will crash etc., and you do have to go back to a previous save). However - to each his (or her) own belief or opinion.
Maybe you have already d/loaded a list of cheats to give you "unlimited ammo" , extra health, zillions of gold, or a bag of buckets to put over every man, woman and child you want to steal from. ( I must confess I laughed my head off when I watched that on Youtube).

So - what exactly is your own personal game style?

On a scale of 1 to 10 how would you rate yourself.

Approximately: 9 to 1O for deciding to bite the bullet and treat it like you only have one shot? No cheats. Stand by your decisions, misguided or not, etc. and see thru' the effects, maybe to your pleasant surprize; maybe to your dismay. Your belief: "This will be MY true virtual-reality adventure."

6 to 9 for needing to re-load only when you make a really big ****up? Otherwise you will connive if necessary, steal, lie, kill, run to save your miserable life, do whatever you will to survive, heroically or cowardly. Your motto:"I am a realist - That's how life should be. ."

5 to 6 if you will enable SOME basic cheats just to give you an edge.(After all, no-one is looking over your shoulder to confront you - it's only a game). Your opinion: "This really is only a game so - what the heck? Let's have a ball."

1 to 5 if you decide to be one of the first, if not the first to blast your way thru' the Main Story using every trick and cheat available just to be able to say : " I finished the game in xx straight hours. How about that? Your only concern: " THAT is what really turns me on."

I play the way I want. A silly scale like this mean nothing because wherever I would "score" myself would change constantly.

Cheats? I don't know anything about any cheats, but I've certainly smithed some iron daggers to boost smithing. I also tend to save often - no Dead is Dead for me, at least this play-through, and no [censored]-up quests. I do tend to stick to a character concept, including some sense of a basic moral compass, but I certainly can't imagine RPing things like sleeping, eating, etc. Major snoozefest.

Actually showing a scale like that simply makes the player admit (roughly) how they intend approaching the game. That's all.

I would go with a nine out of your scale. With the exception that every time I'm about to quit playing; I save the game and proceed to murder civilians. When the guards kill me, I just turn off my computer.

I will cheat when I feel it necessary. I will blast trhough quests when I feel it necessary. I will reload to make a different choice when necessary.

You cant put a meaningless number to my play style, and me thinks I'm not the only one this way. I adjust my style based off how I see fit. What I do one second won't necessarily be the same down the line.

For my main game, I'd probably give myself a seven. I don't use any cheats, and I try and avoid re-loading as much as possible, BUT given that it is my main save I will do a lot to ensure I get the most out of the world. Such as items and possible skills. So not quite the Eight I might like, I'll take a six or seven.

For my new character though (Qa'Radirr) it shall be a perfect 10. Dead is dead, full roleplay, no exploits and acting as an actual person would in those situations, following pre-determined history related story goals.

I guess I'll give myself a 9 in that regard. When I played my first run through, I didn't reload to correct a mistake. If I made a "wrong" choice, I ran with it.

My playstyle is that I pretend my character to be me. I stick with my actions because I mike mistakes sometimes and [censored] happens. I use my own morality, fighting-style, decoration-style. I don't use cheats and I only reload if I die, pressing on wrong button which lead to something I don't wanna do or if the game crashes.

I give myself a 8.

Depends on when I'm playing. First is always a 10. If I fail a mission (which seems impossible in this game), I live with those consequences. And I never cheat. Also, I don't think I've run into any event where I could make a big ****up

Maybe around my 3rd play, I'll enable some cheats.

Unless by 9-10, you mean DiD. In which case, probably an 8.

LOL Therefore I would put you in 1 to 5, 5 to 6 and 6 to 9 simultaneously, but definitely NOT in 9 to 10.

If that is possible, then your scale is flawed. You could never gain any accurate information from it.

I hear you. In that case, to cover the scope of your personal play-style, I offer "1 to 9" which will cover all of the 3 scopes as above but excluding, of course "9 to 10". How about that ? :)

Still flawed. Its like an "I don't care" option on a poll. Its meaningless to the overall data trying to be obtained.

hmmm. . . as I weigh it up, I have to disagree. From the info. you gave, your play-style obviously spans those 3 categories but, as I said, does not apply to the "9 to 10" category. Therefore the info. you provided is, indeed "meaningful" re. showing one, by comparison, how you fit in the gameplay. However, if you wish to disagree, please be my guest. :)

I barely reload. Stand by my decisious. I tend to avoid the main quest for long time and go wander off, doing minor quests.

I'd rate meself as '9 to 10'. I save to avoid the consequences of the game suddenly dropping to the desktop (PC player) or a quest gets broken (i.e., "ask about the farm BEFORE giving him the heirloom, otherwise neither quest can be completed"). Other than that, what happens is what happens and I deal with that. Stole something from someone because I was determined to finish off a dragon and needed what they had, and it was 2AM. Didn't wait, just snuck in and took what I needed. A few days later, some hired thugs were 'gonna teach me a lesson'. After treating all of them to a dirt nap, found a note on one from the owner of the shop I had stolen from. Guess I wasn't as stealthy as I had thought...

I like playing this way as it encourages taking chances and lets me find out things about the game I might not have learned any other way.

I'm with Echonite. List of options doesn't work. I save & load alot (so "6-9" isn't applicable), don't use cheats (so "5-6" doesn't work), and didn't care about blasting through the story (so 1-5 doesn't work). And certainly not 9-10. So, none of the options relate to the way I play at all.

I'm a bit of all of them. I used cheats at the beginning to give my Dovakiin some Imperial armor and the Imperial Helmet (the one with the horse-crest) to fit with my whole background for him, but I also roleplay realistically (sleep, eat, drink at certain intervals, etc) and I don't revert saves in order to fix wronged actions. What will be, will be.

I'd rate myself a 9-9.5 of out of 10, although I still get killed pretty often. Half of it's my fault and the other half is bad luck. I save sometimes when I do something important but with the autosaves I feel it's not that important unless the Game freezes before 15 mins and that doesn't happen often if ever.
