Whats the best thing about Skyrim?

Post » Tue Jun 12, 2012 10:12 am

For me its the music. Its got some fantastic tracks to start with, but its really Impressive how the game somehow manages to make the tracks play JUST at the right time when you peek over a hill and see a gigantic mountain range, almost creating a movie-like scene thats completely missing from an open world game like Skyrim. Also, the graphics. The elder scrolls has always looked Decent, but never great, because they focused on Gameplay. Skyrim though, they finally nailed it. First, the textures look AMAZING for a game of this size. But some of them, mountain rocks I'm looking at you, aren't so great. Regardless, skyrim's bueaty in in the mountains. Climb up to the top of one and look down at the rest of the world and you'll see what I'm talking about.

There's so much that it's hard to pick apart the sum of its parts to narrow down just one thing. I really enjoy the music as well. I wish they included the soundtrack in the CE of the game as I can't find it for sale (at least on Amazon). So I have to go to YouTube instead.

I like the style of Skyrim. Its to be expected since the game takes place with the Nord's homeland. I like the Nord Viking/Barbarian feel. I kinda like looking like Conan with a beard that hasn't been shaved in a few days. The dragons talking was unexpected but I love it.

I can't wait to see what goodies are in store for us with future DLC. I've heard rumors that seem too good to be true so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Stealing someone's clothing that they are wearing and leaving them half naked makes me laugh. Thanks Bethesda

Skyrim for me is a canvas upon which I can paint my own pictures, a blank book in which I can write my own stories. This is what is best about all the Elder Scrolls games.

For me its probably the gameworld. The scenery is beautiful and the world is the most immersive of the series, IMO.

Your right! One would expect Skyrim would at some point switch to a more treditional fantasy setting, or swurve from its viking-ish setting, but Nope! Bethesda stuck to the theme the whole time and nailed it completly. Its awesome.

I'd say the scale at which I can create and customize my characters. With 10 races, lots of skill and perks, and dozens of weapons and armours to use I feel like I have a lot more control over my gaming experience than other games. And then mix that with the scale and beauty of the game world. A massive, detailed land in which to create the stories of my created characters futher adds to that experience. I've never felt so much freedom in a game before.

I think Beth just needs to work a little on depth (character and world interaction and story telling) to really hit the nail on the head.

Just found a really nice touch! I was wandering near Ivarstead, towards Riften. I found a small camp, and decided to investigate. It seemed pretty boring, until I found a note hidden on a barrel behind some mead. It read: 'look on the island in the lake, where a great tree once stood. I went over there, to find two treasure hunters, who attacked. And there, in a hole beside two shovels, was a chest with some gold in it. Not much, but I thought it was a really nice bit of detail.

When I open up the game and check the journal...so many quests! Do I want to do any today?

Nah, I spend all night chasing bugs or looking for plants and once in a while I kill something to get a hide.

It's the feeling of not being stressed to do anything right now, we can do it tomorrow. :)

The gameworld, even though it's far too small.

It's obvious they put a lot of time and effort into crafting it.

I would agree with the music, it adds so much to the atmosphere, Soule nailed it! Also the detail of the land, not the graphics, but the detail of the varieties of landscapes, trees, and the northern lights at night, snowstorms, rainstorms etc. :woot:

For me it's the soundtrack. I really wasn't a fan of Jeremy Soule until Skyrim. Sure, the main Morrowind theme was excellent, and there were a couple of good ones in Oblivion, but I was unmoved by everything else. He completely knocked it out of the park in Skyrim. Kudos to him. He employed more styles in Skyrim than he did in Oblivion and Morrowind, which were decidedly monotone to my ears.

Then there's the aurora's at night. A simple touch, but it added so much. My first encounter with Paarthurnax was at night where an orange aurora in the background, and the first time I ventured through Markath was at night with a green aurora. The auroras did more than anything else to set the mood.

I know that's two things, but I can't help myself. I'm generally critical of Skyrim, but man they did do some things right.

For me it's the atmosphere that the game portrays. It just suits Skyrim and draws me into the game. I can play it for hours at a time.
The dungeons are also much improved

Have you looked on direct song for the soundtrack? This is where I bought mine from http://www.directsong.com/mobile/productdetails.php?productid=2240
Although I'm not sure if they are still being signed by Jeremy Soule.

If I had to pick one, it's probably the soundtrack. It's a great part of the atmosphere.
