whats the best way to fill soul gems?

Post » Sat Jun 02, 2012 1:05 am

I got a lot of souls gems. Like maybe 30 petty, 10 grand, 17 common, and so.

I would like to level my enchanting but all of these are empty.

are there any good places I can go to fill the petty? I know humans can't fill the gems.

Wolves and mudcrabs are good for petty gems.

Easiest way is get a weapon with the soul bind effect and pick one of those barrows with a lot of draugr. They fill up quick.

Try to find a companion that doesn't start with a bow, if you can't, oh well, use whoever it just may take longer.

Give your empty gems to a companion.

Give your companion a weapon that has soul steal as a property.

Run around the wilderness and let them kill everything.

Gems will fill in multiples instead of singles. You can fill 50+ gems in 10 minutes max.

hmm sounds kind of cheating but it seems like a pain to fill these :Pwhich companion doesn't use a bow?

What they said. If you give your companion stacks of soul gems, they fill an entire stack from just one kill.

Just kill things with a soul trap enchanted weapon. Or cast a soul trap spell before killing them.

For my black souls, I have a dagger enchanted with soul trap and Assassin's Blade perk. For everything else, I use the spell, but I didn't level my enchanting until about halfway through the game so I ended up buying a bunch of filled petty and lesser souls since I had so much money

The bound-Bow will give you SoulTrap every hit.

hmmm well u can always buy all the full petty gems from shops (same level up if grand OR petty) and use those for training until u hit ur mark (mine was 100 XD) combine with a soul trap enchanted bow (use when beast is on last inch of life) or a soul trap spell and u will have all the gems u will ever need.

what do you mean? Every shot fills a soul gem even if they are alive? But just to tell you guys this is on my mage character. So daggers and weapons aren't super good for me. I got the soul trap spell. Is there a companion that doesn't use a bow? I got the Lydia companion but she only ever uses her bow.

Also, if you don't mind exploits:

If your soul gem only received a partial fill, drop it on the ground and the soul will disappear.

This does not work with Grand or Black soul gems with a Grand soul in them, but why would you even want to do this to those? :P

Aww man are you serious? I always take a companion just for soul gems. I was actually wondering today why I only killed maybe five things and lydia had a stack of 18 petty soul gems. Now I feel like I cheated the whole time. :(

I only do this when grinding enchanting to 100. Any other time I just buy them filled.

anyone know where can I get a companion who only meeles?

Also I thought when you get a soul weapon its only like 2 seconds to kill something opposed to the spell which is 60? so how is my companion gonna kill something that fast. I already killed mobs fast lol. so if I just let him do it himself he could waste the charges on the weapon.

The best way is to empty your inventory of soul gems. Then go find some monsters (higher level the better) but before that go find the beehives and collect bees. Once you find the monster whose soul you desire, eat 1 bee (just one) and then run at the monster - when you collide with them (as long as you don't hit them with a spell or weapon or fist) their soul will be absorbed and once you go buy one soul gem (you have to buy them one at a time) it will fill it ALWAYS with a grand soul.

Trust me. Best way.

wut

Even if that's true, that's not the best way. You would have to fast travel to find a merchant to get a soul gem and then go back to "bee bump" another creature. That is not efficient.

enchanting your weapon with a 1 sec soul trap, it should have a few hundred charges that way. then its either draugrs, or walk around and soul trap the horkers by the beach.

I guess if you don't feel like monster hunting and you have the skills, you can capture the souls of your own summons, just like in Oblivion. Some might call it cheap though.
