whats the deal with the white outlining?

Post » Sun May 27, 2012 3:34 am

I have the 360 version and its running perfectly no problems as of yet.... I did come across something rather strange.... the characters or myself will have this outline effect only when in direct sunlight....it can only be seen when the character or player is in the sunlight and infront of a dark background..... I have seen it on chickens and npc's.....what is this effect?

here is a link of someone else playing the game I noticed it in this video.... at 2:30 its clearly seen on the npc walking and then sitting at the table....it is also on the character when it turns to the shadows and is in direct light....

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WeHuxVJlsMI

this white effect was not in my ps3 version and only present in my 360 version

My guess is the various AA style filters used to smooth out the edges, assuming we are talking about the same thing :)

I think it's just a way to separate things from their background, to make various entities seem distinguished from their surroundings. The effect is subtle enough normally that it would serve its purpose without being noticed most of the time.

I play on 360 too and i've noticed as well, a lot of times. Dunno what it is. It's a bit distracting though.

The video was probably taken on the PC. And that Skyrim probably had mods and high settings.

You know what? Never mind. This thread makes NO SENSE! :ahhh:

thanks to the console hardware, the game is running on dx9. If you're playing on consoles, don't complan. It's literally microsoft and sony's fault for not updating the hardware so proper gaming innovation and development can take place. :obliviongate:

It's kinda like when you look at (badly) photoshopped things or bad animation/CGI or something, e.g where a person is on a background and their image has obviously and badly been put there digitally....know what I mean..??

Texture details of armour etc loading when I look at it, a hill or trees appearing out of nowhere....this crazy white outline...[censored] xbox, wish I had a better computer. This + no mods for me = platform regret as :(

I used to have that problem for the first 20 or so hours I played it, but I haven't been noticing it since.

Still wondering if this white outline is "normal" or is it some kind of graphics glitch? anyone else seen this issue?

Comes and goes on my version, and I play on PC. However, it's only there for about 5 seconds at a time, so it's not really an issue for me. Also, it only happens to my own character when I am in third person.

I hate the blue outlining of your weapons when you get into a darker area.

It is probably because shadows are blurred via a screen space technique. That often has the drawback of creating halos around objects. Play with iBlurDeferredShadowMask=3, maybe set it to zero to see if you can get rid of the halos but that wouldn't work if you don't have the PC version. Sorry.
