Whats the point in horses if im faster on feet.

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 7:53 pm

Just run some tests, In Whiterun stole that horse and did a run to the honeyfarm and back.

40sec on feet. 50sec riding. What?

With healing+respite i can run nonstop. So we have a low hp, slow moving horse, and it cannot even carry stuff (my biggest gripe actually). I dont understand.

You're making a point that has been made so many times before that the whole subject is just boring now.

Because it's cool riding along in the snowy countryside. And you can use the console to setspeed on your horse if it bothers you that much.
I'm sure mods will come out for this.. AlienSlof already has some beautiful horse textures out.

You can actually travel faster when you're over encumbered on a horse and it allows you to fast travel while at it if you were carrying for example 2000 / 300.

I don't believe a horse's speed is affected by encumbrance, unlike the player who will be slowed down by armor. You can even ride a horse at full tilt if you are over-encumbered. So a character in heavy armor will find a horse more useful, and someone clearing out a dungeon will also get more benefit.

did you try sprinting?

I find horse sprint is significantly faster. However, I admit I have not run any tests.

on a side note, werewolf sprint = fastest.

The best reason other than the weight benifits is horses climb sides of mountains easier

There are mods that make the horses faster and the player move at a more realistic speed. If you are bothered by this and you are playing on PC you should check them out.

I can boost my Stamina with equipment for a quick sprint, I can't do the same on the horses. Worst is that I can't even see his health/stamina bars.

I'll stick to heavy armour and the Steed Stone.
In Skyrim I next to never used horses (besides Shadowmere as a distraction), but at least in Oblivion I figured them useful at lower levels, until you got 100 Athletics.

Simple quote from The Argonian Account that basically sums up my entire point of view on the matter of horses.
Scotti introduced himself. "I'm a senior clerk in Lord Vanech's Building Commission in the Imperial City. My job was to come here to try to fix the problems with commerce, but I've lost my agenda, haven't met with any of my contacts, the Archeins of Gideon..."

"Pompous, assimiliated [sic], slaver kleptocrats," a small lemon-colored Agaceph murmured with some feeling.

"...And now I just want to go home."

Nomu smiled, his long mouth arching up like a host happy to see an unwanted guest leave a party. "Shehs will guide you."

Shehs, it seemed, was the bitter little yellow creature, and he was not at all pleased at the assignment. With surprising strength, he hoisted Scotti up, and for a moment, the clerk was reminded of Gemullus dropping him into the bubbling muck that led to the Underground Express. Instead, Shehs shoved Scotti toward a tiny little raft, razor-thin, that bobbed on the surface of the water.

"This is how you travel?"

"We don't have the broken wagons and dying horses of our brothers on the outside," Shehs replied, rolling his tiny eyes. "We don't know better."

Horses are very skilled at rock climbing apparently, they just ride right over any mountain with ease. That's the only good thing about them.
