whats the true purpose of the banning of talos?

anyone?

to me i thought the banning of talos was a secret move from the thalmor to spark rebellion in skyrim to weaken the empire...

but then again, im also thinking that they made this ban because they see themselves superior to men and dont believe that a man should be worshiped as a god...

which one is it guys?

thanks

talos keeps the world spinning, the thalmor view the world as evil and wish to return to the before where everyone was a god

Control. Banning native religion is one of the standard tenets of empire building and assimilation.

The Thalmor do not want to admit that a human could actually become a god. The Thalmor want to disambiguate the world of Nirn: in other words, they want to destroy all humans and other races who are NOT Thalmor/Altmer. At that point, they believe that THEY will be the gods they yearn to be.

Getting rid of Talos as a god is the first step in this long-term ideology. And I'm QUITE sure Cecilff2 could explain better/more fully than I can. You can look up the whole thing on the wiki.
