Whats up with 'Muffle'?

Post » Tue May 29, 2012 9:08 pm

If I enchant some glass boots with 'Muffle' using a Grand soul gem instead of a petty soul gem, will it make a difference? I would assume that it would, but the description says the same thing either way.
I understand that this is a complex code problem. I don't care. I want an answer. My companion's life may hang in the balance.
So...
Question: Does 'Muffle' have different levels?

I ask this here, at the finest forum in the net...

From what I can tell, Muffle, as an enchantment, provides no additional bonuses based on your enchanting skill or soul size used. There are no charges and even when used as an Illusion spell, it only becomes powerful in the sense that it lasts longer.

May I ask what you dischanted muffle from? Obviously not DB boots or nightingale boots, I have played for a while now and I haven't come across any normal armor with the muffle enchantment.

To answer your question, I think it does have an effect, with the scaling effect of the nightingale armor, you can have different magnitudes of muffle on the boots depending on your level, so I presume its the same with enchanting.

The effect can be found rarely on loot.

With my non-sneaking character, I was finding muffle enchanted amulets up the butt. Now that I am a stealth character, the only things I've seen are the DB boots. :/

Not for me, sneaking for me is quite easy due to 100 sneak with most sneak perks + illusion.

For a follower, I would enchant muffle and fortify sneak for him. Could work. Just can't find any muffle enchantments.

Protip: Your followers won't sneak anyway. Yes, they sneak with you while you're sneaking, but if you tell them to kill something, they won't do so stealthily, and the moment the enemy goes into alert they will stop sneaking again and rush headlong into battle. Even if you give them Muffle boots (enchanted or pre-made). I mean, I have Cicero with me, we're in the same exact armor (the Jester suit, which the boots have Muffle on them) and he STILL doesn't sneak attack people when told to attack while sneaking.

If they are sneaking with you, even without the boots, it won't set off the enemy's "sound" detection, so far as I can tell.

Yeah they will follow me sneaking, not attacking the enemy until I do, I won't get detecting when sneaking around and they won't due to enchantments. If I engage the enemy and I'm detected, then they will attack the enemy with me.

Thats the theory anyway, I want to see how effective it is.

This is good news!

I don't remember what it was, but I am a sneak~freak! Main lvl 28 / stealth lvl 80, and I think that the 'Radiant story' played a part in my finding these things.
