Hey folks,

I'm fianlly getting a chance to cut out some elderberry, but they have fruited. The berries are still hard and green. Are the seeds still immature enough in a green (not ripe) state that I don't have to burn them?

For that matter, in general, when are seeds mature in comparison to the fruit?

They are immature enough to dispose of.

The seeds are mature when the fruit is darkish purple and has a fleshy soft pulp. Elderberries are edible, but must be cooked first. They contain substances that mammals cannot process, which cooking destroys. You want to remove the berries before the birds get to them and they spread.
The leaves, roots, and stems are highly toxic, any children helping you should wear gloves.
