When non gamer play Skyrim

Post » Sat Jun 09, 2012 3:25 am

Today I talked my sister in to playing skyrim, she had played only GTA IV before, mostly she drove cars into street poles and cop cars, and
civilians too. But when she played Skyrim it was hilarious - I play High elf spellsword so it was hit and burn, but she hardly kept enemy in her croshair so after few dead wolves and hunters who were fondly introduced with orcish mace she went disoriented and started to burn and go around like some kind of hurricane, like really she pressed right stick to left and hoped she doesnt die.

Really, really frustrates me trying to watch others play games...no matter what their skill level. Normally get the urge to grab the controller from their hands. Remember tring to teach a non gaming mate to play halo once. Still wake up screaming now!

I successfully turned my non-gaming ex into a pro FPS gamer (who would even outscore ME in battlefield)

Took a couple years, but I had the best squadmate ever for years... it was great.

Broke my [censored] heart when she dumped me... not for the relationship... I lost my squadmate! :P

i came out of the shower with my daughter laughing as her mom had taken my character and was sitting in the lower river in ivarstead struggling to not go over the falls. the screen was pointing in the river, up in the air, diagonal, everything. menus were popping up and she was stuck.

we (my daughter watches me play and knows what's up) sat there laughing as she went over the falls and put the control down.

My girlfriend once tried to play Oblivion but she couldn't keep the crosshair straight and everytime she had to change direction she ended up facing some wall. When she finally had to fight some rats, it took her an eternity to kill them and she gave the controller back to me, saying "I don't want to play this game anymore, I'm afraid of these giant rats".

This reminds me of when I got my GF to play games. How she had avoided games for 46 years, I don't know. Anyway, the best entry game for people is the Lego games. Easy to learn, not frustrating to play, and gives challenges as you get better. So, we played one of the Star Wars ones.

It was just like the OP described. At one point, her character had lost one leg and both arms (how that happened I still don't know) so it was hopping around on one leg and using it's head to press buttons. Then she was flying around in some air car that I did not even know existed.

I am tempted to hook up an 360 controller to my PC and hand this game over to her to see what happens. She would probably figure out how to ride a dragon and make a skeleton dance.

I know the feeling.
I tried to get a friend of mine to play Portal once... After about 20 minutes, she managed to get Chell to run in a straight line diagonally against a wall with eyes pinned firmly downwards. Operating either the movement or the view to any sort of practical end was too difficult for her. Trying to operate both the right and left sticks at the same time was completely and utterly beyond her.
Naturally, I started making jokes about how she obviously hadn't discovered she had thumbs yet.

When you do.... get my Kung Fu Costumes mod I made for Morrowind if you can find it.
Not sure if they still have it on Planet Elder Scrolls since I got permabanned from there many years ago... but they should do.

That would be me. Well, maybe not quite; I used to play an awful lot of Goldeneye: 007 and Perfect Dark, but controllers are imprecise nonsense. Mouse or nothing.

It's funny watching my mom and her boyfriend comment on games. He assumes you should be able to do all kinds of physics-based tactical crap in RPGs just because the graphics are good. Meanwhile mom just makes fun of any game with bad graphics. She wasn't at all impressed with Link to the Past or Daggerfall. Come to think of it, he wasn't impressed with Daggerfall either. :D

All my friends usually get dizzy or nauseous when i let them play any of the first person games am into. Only person that might show any interest is my brother inlaw who thinks rpgs are incredible but never plays them due to being too busy with real life work knowing it takes alot of time to fully enjoy them. He hardly plays any sequels to his favorites like Half Life. Whats interesting is he really learns the games and beats everyone in whatever game he is playing whether its Starcraft or lan play in Quake 2 etc.
