It's good to know that the game isn't cancelled :) I've heard that it was announced even before Borderlands, and then delayed for some reason.

Any hints Mr Gstaff?

This year? Next year?

If it's released before Elite IV, then I'll be happy. :P

No way does it release in 2 weeks, with no hype, no notice that it's gone gold, no media from the second wasteland, etc.

There's been no news on the game since Quakecon, and Bethesda appears to believe their big releases this year are Brink and New Vegas. My money is on 2011.

Yeah, but this isn't Activision id...Bethesda will most likely use a different calendar...most likely something in between Valve Time and Acti-Time i.e. in 2 to 10 years.

Actually it will be id time, if any thing Bethesda will be lighter on the pressure then an outside contracted publisher. From what I've heard they have been very true to their word of letting id run things the way they want to.

I'd guess most games have release date targets quite early in their developement - a general time table is probably a basic part of pre-production.

Yeah, Bethesda won't want to rock the boat too much on their new sibling although given id's track record there's really no reason to.

ID is pretty good about releasing demos, so there is a good chance (Doom3 had a great demo, the first 3 levels of the game). The only issue might be the Mega-texture tech--it might mean that the demo filesize is HUGE, and that might deter them from releasing a demo. If there is one, won't see it until the game is close to release, though.

I'm hoping for a release by fall or winter, but who knows--it could slip into next year.

I do hope that a demo does come out pre-release. I'm pretty confident that I'm going to pick this up anyway but I'd like to know how well it will run on my PC. Just like most others here, I'd love to hear new details, even if it's just a teaser trailer or even some screens, but if it's going to be a while before the game ships, I'd rather be kept in the dark. As long as we know it's still coming out, I'd rather wait to get some goodies until closer to launch.

If you guys want to discuss demos you can start a new thread about them :)

Id does tend to release them and I don't see that changing now that they're part of Zenimax. Of course there could be technical reasons that prevent this which lefty666 has already touched upon.

Well Gamestop has it listed fort the 1st of January, 2011. That is most likely just a placeholder date anyways but at least it is an idea. I am guessing first Quarter of next year.

I'm certain that's a placeholder date - if you can have a game ready that close to Christmas you won't release it after the holiday rush. :)

Although I agree that early 2011 seems like a good guess.

I remember in the GameInformer article, ID specifically stated that since they're such a successful company they were able to take their time, so I won't be surprised if we have to wait even longer than Hungry Donner suggested. I hope we don't, but on the other hand, better to release late and fix glitches if you have the resources to do so.

This has me wondering though...will Doom 4 ALSO be published by Bethesda? Or is this the only id Software game that will be?

Yep, id software and Bethesda are now sister companies - both part of Zenimax Media.

RAGE will be out mid next year, it will run at 60FPS but I don't think it'll be 1080p. I think it will e 720p.
