I'm sorry and this is not just aimed at this thread but it's been driving me nuts so I have to ask...
What is it with the whole "immersion" stick that is so popular? Is it a new buzz word? Do people even know what it means any more? It is not some frail tangible thing that shatters like glass every time a dragon flies upside down. It's a connection to a character, a game world (or story), a blurring between the real you and the character you play in the game. It is the realization that you have just lost 4 hours of your life because you were chasing down Red Nirn Roots in Blackreath and lost track of time. It is when you yell at your followers out loud when they move into your line of fire just as you release a fire storm spell and their health is less than 10%. It is when a follower dies and you spend an hour arranging their body on a stone throne in some Dwemer ruin to show your last respects. It is feeling sorry for killing a Giant even though he was minding his own business and didn't even notice you. It is all in your mind and requires a good amount of imagination and empathy.
It is not something that just goes away because you saw something out of place. That is not immersion, it's just an excuse to criticize the game using a word you know nothing about because Todd Howard mentioned it about a 100 times and thus you feel obligated to use it. Real dreamers never wake up from the dream no matter how real it gets.
