when you think you've hear it all...

Post » Sun Jun 10, 2012 3:22 pm

here's the story:
I got a friend who likes videogames, but mostly plays action games like call of duty, 007, battlefield and so on, we don't see each other often because of work, but one day around january we casually meet.
We start talkin about general stuff, then we part ways, all of I sudden I think "I gotta ask him if he played skyrim" so I say "hey, did you try skyrim? it's a really cool game, won the GOTY" and he replies "no, skyrim huh? I'll check that up on the internet, thanks".
After 3 weeks we meet again, he walks up to me with a mad "imma kill ya rite now" face and says: "yo dude wtf, that game skyrim was boring, I looked it up on the internet and looked like a medieval call of duty and went straight to buy it, and all this game does is talks" then he starts insulting me.

now, my question is: what kind of video about skyrim did he watch??? WTF?

Everyone has a different take on a game and not everyone likes what someone else likes. No need to call him a moron.

Oh, I don't mean he's a moron for not liking the game. I just can't see how anyone could look at Skyrim and reach the 'Call of Duty Medieval Times' conclusion. Perhaps my gut reaction was harsh but I don't think OP has to worry too much about what video his pal watched.

After spending some time trying to understand the "medieval CoD" description, I can only conclude your friend has never seen or heard any content from and Elder Scrolls game.

I guess that maybe the ones that focus soley on archery gameplay? That's the closest I can think of. There are tonnes of videos on Youtube alone though.

Edit: 'Soley' doesn't look right. I'm either tired or that's wrong.

Looked odd to me too, so I looked it up--should be "solely".

Ahahaha! My brain wasn't even registering the missing 'l'. Thanks; I was too lazy to look it up. I'm really exhausted so that's my excuse.

It's often first-person and there are crosshairs. You shoot arrows/fireballs and hack n slash. These are technically similarities. But yeah besides that, I have no idea.

Medieval Call of Duty.

From various aspects, he's correct.

It's odd though, you listed him as liking Call of Duty, but then he dislikes a "Medieval Call of Duty."

IDK, it sounds to me like he saw a vid with a lot of action and he bought it on that basis then found out that there is a lot of dialog.

a lot of dialog? :lmao: there is not a lot of dialog (not to insult skyrim or nothing), not to mention "all this game does is talks" clearly shows he did not even finish helgan (after that there is what, zero lines of dialog that you have to even know exist to play?), oh and lol at drawing "midevil CoD" from anything involving skyrim (he seen someone take down a dragon or something? stoped thinking right then and there and decided that was the entire game?)

You missed the OP's meaning. His friend looked it up, presumably a combat gameplay trailer got the impression the game would be like a Medieval (fantasy) first person shooter. Upon playing the game, he realized this wasn't actually the case. And while this game has FPS qualities, it is definitely not that style of game outside of a few similarities.

The one dialogue the NPCs say ie interesting the first time they say it, after you play for a while it gets stale. The dialogue is good there needs to be more of it. That is where I thought unspoken dialogue in games did well not everything had to be voiced, so money could have been better spent on other things, but voiced dialogue in now an industry standard.

yep, main problem, like i said, there is not a lot of dialog, but this is not the point of the htrad, we are supposed to be pointing and laughing at the OP's friend

He looked at the "official gameplay trailer" and thought he knew what the game was like hahaha

No offence, but your friend is an idiot... No one should ever believe official gameplay video.

Reminds me of Beavis and Butthead looking at a book and saying "words, words, words". Skyrim is boring to some people. It's just not action oriented enough for the typical CoD twitch gamer types.
