Post » Tue Jun 05, 2012 3:52 pm

Hey all,

Been a while since I posted on the actual forums. Tought I'd share a video on how to get a pretty sweet hidden chest in Solitude.

Cheers

There's one of these in Dawnstar, too: to the left of the iron mine, in the rocks under the overhang there. They belong to the Khajiit caravans, so there should be three of them, but I haven't found the third one yet.

I typically use these to get a new character up and running, since most of the contents can be sold at blacksmiths, who have the most money. The filled Soul Gems can be used to work on Enchanting, while the empty ones can be sold off to general stores or traded in to mages for spell books.

Thanks for this - I'll remember it (and the rest of the videos) when I start the my next new game, and showed my brother who was playing it at the time as well - he was surprised but grateful. :)

I can't find it. I found a few blue twigs there and have surveyed that area while crouching but nothing shows up. Also, Khajiit have set up some tents. Maybe that changed something.

If you can't find it and you're on PC, just use the TCL command like the person who made the video did to go underground in the area where it's supposed to be and you'll be able to see where it's at.

I wonder if both of these chests (the one in Dawnstar and this one) are for the Khajiit merchant caravan..

They are. Each chest is linked to one of the three caravans, and the city it's at is one of that caravan's destinations.

Found this one. Took a bit to sell it all off. Got my home in Solitude mostly furnished from this. Great find. Hard, too.

There are more?

I want to know how they found it. There is no way this could have been 'stumbled upon'. Perhaps a PC user with the console?

there's an easy one at dawnstar which everyone knows about.
there's a not so easy one at whiterun, involves jumping off a roof with high damage intake.
taking from these chests is not stealing.

there are several at markarth, involving the wall glitch. one at hag's cure, one at understone, etc.

Actually, the ones at Dawnstar and Solitude could well have been 'stumbled upon', as they're only a little ways below the ground and could have been spotted while sneaking. It's more likely to have been someone poking around after turning off clipping, though.

@squiros:

What is the 'wall glitch'? I've tried various means of wall-scaling, but they always force me back down due to steepness.

Imo Merchant's Chests should be in storerooms and basemants of stores protected by multiple master level locks. To give incentive to thieves and the lockpicking tree. Mods?

No, the ones that you can just randomly find are not glitches. But the ones that require you to go through walls are glitches.

I have found two trailing Khajiit merchants. I'm betting this is the other one, not the dawnstar merchants. Just a guess.

Thanks for the info. That will allow me to set up a new character and RP that he is established and not an escaped prisoner.

I tend to just take a few things and sell them, so that I have a starting stake with which to buy crafting supplies, but I could see fully outfitting a character this way as well, especially if you leveled up a couple of skills in the tutorial and are eligible for better items since you're in the 20s or 30s. One thing they're very useful for is obtaining enchantments for use in crafting, since they always have a goodly assortment of generic magic items.

I guess it depends on your interpretation of the word "glitch".

To me, accessing an under-the-worlspace chest full of uber items that is intended to be used by another mechanic in the game is cheating/a glitch/completely unintended by the developers.

The difference between glitch and not to you is that your character doesn't clip through a wall, but is accessing a chest that is?

It's a glitch. Period - this is the same logic as the item duplication crowd in Oblivion used to use. They screamed til they were blue in the face that duplicating items was a feature and not a glitch because you could do it without using the console...

...at least til the day they fixed it. Their tears were delicious
