Where can I find the Steam Workshop terms?

Post » Sun Jun 17, 2012 11:31 pm

Can someone post a link to the Steam Workshop terms of use, as they apply to Skyrim, and/or cast light on its governance?

I have the CK EULA and the info for this forum, of course, and I've read the Bethesda blog. Now I'm looking for the formal Steam Workshop specifics, but I can't seem to find them anywhere.

Thanks. Very useful!

Since the CK EULA explicitly prohibits commercial use, I guess it's clear that Valve won't be charging for Skyrim mods, so the clauses about payment don't apply to this game.

I see Valve has an unlimited right to remove content. Are there any informal guidelines? What about transparency and due process?

They aren't very clear on that, but this is their so called disclaimer (Found on the CK Wiki):

"We won’t host offensive, copyrighted or trademarked material on the Skyrim Workshop. Mods with this kind of content will be banned, so please don’t bother uploading them."

You grant to Valve a worldwide, non-exclusive, perpetual, irrevocable, royalty-free, assignable right and license to (a) use, copy, distribute, publicly display, publicly perform, modify, and create derivative works from Your Contribution in any media, (identify you as the source of the Contribution, and ? sublicense these rights, to the maximum extent permitted by applicable law.

Wow, and all the people who were shouting at others to shut up for saying that this would be in the Valve agreement. *shakehead*

Valve may bundle Your Contribution with other contributions and/or its own materials in its sole discretion.

I don't like that one or the one below. Bethesda could grant Valve an exclusive license to sell mods, it probably won't happen, however the possibility exists.

If Valve chooses to distribute Your Contribution for a Valve Game for a fee, then Valve may set the price for such distribution in its sole discretion, and Valve will pay You as follows, conditioned on Your compliance with the obligations contained in this Agreement. Beginning with the calendar month in which Valve first distributes a copy of the Valve Game Contribution for a fee, Valve shall pay to You twenty-five percent (25%) of the Adjusted Gross Revenue

They're certainly going to have to define "offensive".

There are many aspects of the vanilla Skyrim game which undoubtedly offend some people, but I defend Bethesda's freedom to publish it, because it does little or no harm.

If we are pandering to those people who think cannibalism and human sacrifice are OK, but nudity is evil, let's say so explicitly.

I guess yesterday's http://www.gamesas.com/topic/1343315-matureadvlt-content-guidelines/ implies that "offensive" is held to be synonymous with "mature / advlt" for Steam ban purposes.

In which case, Steam is dead as far as my work is concerned.

Looks like it won't be long before all major games are locked into Steam or Origin, so the word "banned" is not to be taken lightly...

They can't just rate content as M like they do for games I guess? offensive could just as easily be defined as gory or with alcoholic/drug use references. So adding, say, a skooma dealer could be considered offensive by there terms. A torture chamber with victims could be offensive. Scantly clad women could be offensive. The thing is, all these are already in the game to some extent and the game is sold on steam. I think there is going to be a very specific 'offensive' discription. Probably extreme gore and/or nudity.
