Where Can I Put my Grand Library?

Post » Thu Jun 07, 2012 5:12 pm

I don't know exactly why I do it, but for some reason I collect EVERY SINGLE book I come across. Dungeons, booksellers, chests, outposts, hideouts... you name it - I collect it. Books, scrolls, letters, notes, journals, and diaries... I buy it, collect it, or own it.

I don't read them - of course I plan to eventually. As of right now, I store my books in my Whiterun Breezehome. But I only have two bookcases, one which fits 36 books total (18 on top, 18 on bottom) and and another which fits 22 (11 on top, 11 on bottom), with the remaining books in my chest upstairs.

I want a place, with many bookshelves... and I want to store my vast library there. All of my books. I am on a personal quest to collect every known book found throughout Skyrim, and I was wondering if there was a house where I could put them? I will rival even Urag's library.

*When it comes to books, I hoard these things in Skyrim.

Vlindrel Hall in Markarth has 9 shelves (3 bookcases with 3 shelves each) that hold 18 books per shelf - and they're all together (162 books).

Proudspire Manor in Solitude has 10 shelves that hold 11 books each - 2 2-shelf cases on the top floor, 2 2-shelf cases in lower level, and 1 case (2 shelves) on the main floor (110 books).

You could use a mod like http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=9563 or http://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=73407661

There is a very large room in High Hrothgar, and it serves no purpose in the game once the Civil War or The Main Questline are finished, Skyhaven Temple is a similiar place. Just remember to visit the place often enough to prevent it from respawning, dropping off new books every few days is a good way to keep the place from resetting. Shalidors Maze in Labrynthian is another large area that is a place to store books if you remember to visit it often enough to prevent respawning.
The larger homes are the best choices for safe, non respawning storage. I would have used Vlindrell Hall, but I really try and avoid Markarth, and I use mods to avoid having to pay for a player home nowadays.

Yeah... I also dislike Markarth.

Might as well say it now: I hate anything to do with Dwemer, Dwemer Ruins, Dwemer Machinery, etc.

Getting the Elder Scroll in Skyrim was extremely painful for me.

An enjoyable pastime could be trying to fill the room with the Elder Scroll in Mzuleft with duplicate books, actually now that you have the map marker Mzuleft is a decent place to stash books neatly, but it probably respawns every thirty days, too

I might consider buying a house in Solitude, cause I dislike Markarth.

But I will not rest until I obtain every book in Skyrim.

I'm even considering collecting every Spell Book and putting them all on a shelf alone..

I know you probably want to display them, but I tried that for a while and it became an exercise in frustration as, every time I came home to unpack, I had to scoop them all up and re-place them in the bookcases to stay in some kind of alphabetical order, so I could see what I had.

On a side note, the alphabetizing is wacky: Anything starting with "The" is stacked under "T."

Anyway, I use Breezehome for smithing supplies and storing my books in the chest in the alchemy room, so I can pick out my duplicates and sell them (I'm also a compulsive book collector....There's always that depressing point in the game when books don't "unlock" skills for me any more  .)

Vlindrel Hall is your best bet.
Pack the actual bookshelves, then manually place (use telekinesis to make it less painful) the rest on normal surfaces.
Don't try and do it all in one go, make sure each batch of books you manually place is "settled" (and unlikely to explode all over the place next time you enter) before starting the next.
Use all the tricks, dump your entire collection on the floor first, save, leave, save, reenter... save after placing every batch.

Interior decorating in this game can be a punishing task, but so worth it.
