Where does your character go when you log off

Post » Fri Jun 08, 2012 3:49 pm

Having played Warcraft for so long I have the bad habit of finishing what ever I'm doing and going to a city, and I always find myself going into one of my homes before I log off and I was curious if I was the only one that did that.

I also was a warcraft player. So I play this game much in the same way. I always go to a town, sell/empty my inventory and make sure I'm prepared to set out on adventure next time I play!

The amazing disappearing poll. I have two saves, one either at home or in an inn, after selling/storing/crafting/whatever, ready to head off with no messing about, and one in the field, anywhere, we can't always rely on when we have to stop a session.

There was a post a while back that someone played by the rule that they had to be sleeping in their own bed in order to save their game. Any death that occured could be written off as a bad dream. I've not tried the rule, but it seems like it would be do-able.

Never played warcraft, even though Chuck Norris seems to recommend it. However, I do try to finish in a tavern in bed before quitting. However that`s not always possible.

I usually (but not always) finish play sessions with selling / storing loot and going to Breezehome to log off. Perhaps it's from years of playing EQ and EQ2? I don't know. It just seems comfortable.

I like to get to a town, clear out my inventory, restock what I need for my travels, and find a quiet spot before I quit. A fresh start is always nice when you load up an existing save game. That's not always as easily done as i'd like, so it doesn't happen every time. Either way, the world pauses and allows me to pick up where I left off. Since it's not a world that persists when i'm gone, I try not to worry about it that much.

This. One thing I absolutely hate is starting up the game, embarking on a quest or dungeon crawl, only to find I was 5 weight units away from being encumbered.

This is always fun. Especially since you can tell your follower to sit down as well, and he / she will pull out a mug and begin drinking.

Wish our characters would do these casual things. Why does the Dohvakiin have to be such a lifeless robot?

LOL My character either stays overnight in her house or an Inn. I played a free MMO before, where you accumulated XP bonus if you logged out in your house. So yea, plus from a RP prospective, I couldn't just leave my toon out in the wilderness. It is cold and dangerous out there!!!! LOL

This, for me, is another perk of a single player RPG-- I don't feel gimped if I just shut it down where I'm at. In my mind, Skyrim freezes while it's shut off, and resumes when I open the game.

Since I have a slight OCD when it comes to TES, I always save in Whiterun outside the Smith at night, having the camera stand over the torch lightning up the front of my character.

I save in houses or buildings were she can sleep usually. Somewere safe.

Sometimes I save outside. But rarely close to anywhere she can be attacked.

I usually log where ever I am when I look at the clock and realise "Crap, is that time already? I'd better log!"

If we're near home, we'll go there and unload the backpack and get ready for sleep and plan the next day's adventure. If not near home, she might sit in a temple or a tavern or the Jarl's waiting area...just some place warm. No, you're not the only one. :tes:

In Skyrim I always go to my home in Whiterun and end the game there. I always did the same thing in Morrowind and Oblivion too, went to one of my homes before logging off.

Well, since he's not actually going to be doing anything and no in-game time will ever pass in this SP world, all of my characters, all with their world, go into suspended animation.

She's wherever I happen to be when I save.
However, she's a Blade, and I like to think of her as living in Sky Haven temple with Delphine and Esbern.

Think Rowen Atkinson's character from Rat Race. He just randomly falls asleep whenever I stop playing.

That is usually EXACTLY what I do. I get into the RP aspect of things, and try to eat and sleep every day. I try to be an early riser and get up as the sun comes up and plan my adventures for the day. If I’m on the road somewhere and it starts getting dark, I’ll try to get to the nearest village or friendly camp to sleep for the night. If I just cleared a dungeon and it’s late at night I’ll eat a little grub, find a bed or drop my portable bedroll, sleep 8 hours, and rinse/repeat the next day. If I travel say from my home in Solitude to Riften, if I need to crash along the way I will. When I shut down for the night, I’ll usually go home, eat a bite, sleep for the night and save the next morning so when I log back on my PC is ready to hit the road.

It depends on how much time I have, but usually I'll dump inventory and then leave my Nord just outside of a building (after the game autosaves), so I can pick up next time and work on the next quest.

Perhaps if I was to rp, I'd leave him at Breezehome, with Lydia standing guard, or in bed next to him.
