I don't think there is a demo.

These are the requirements on the Steam site:

OS: Windows 7/Vista/XP
Processor: Dual Core 2.0GHz
Memory: 2GB RAM
Hard Disk Space: 10GB free space
Video Card: NVIDIA GeForce 6 series, ATI 1300XT series

Even with the 2 Gig requirement if Fallout 3 ran OK NV should too. The engine is the same. You could stuff another Gig in, it's cheap these days.

Not really. They are in a different location, with different characters and different quests and conflicts. They share engine, resources, and similar gameplay, but it doesn't make it basically Fallout 3: New Vegas. That being said, I would have liked a more different game, perhaps developed on Bethesda's shiny new engine by Obsidian. Even if they released it in 2012 and we didn't have any new Fallout for a while. But anyway . . .

PenGun answered the OP's question pretty accurately.

RAM is dirt cheap anymore. If you aren't familiar with how to add some to your PC, you might take it to a local shop and get it done reasonably. Would improve all the games you play, probably.
