While many types of religion states that giants are the offspring of half human and half god( fallen angel in my case). I wonder what the deal is with the giants in skyrim? The spikes on their forehead could suggest that they crossed paths with the daedra just like the orcs but why are they so TALL. They look like a nordic grandpa from hell!
Maybe their part daedra or dragons or some other ancient race now forgotten. Share your thoughts cuz i couldnt find any imagination on the wiki
Giants look very human, while trolls don't look at all human, so I'd look for another explanation, at least with TES.
I know its just the spikes(bumps?) on the head, they might be elven like though if you look at the ears. Also they seem very Nordic in culture( I know they haved lived in skyrim yadayada).

They're extremely high elves.
Honestly, I'd like to see more about the giants. Maybe even friendly giants that you could trade and live with. I've RPed a friend to the giants, but when you try sleeping at their camps you have to pull things off just right. Otherwise things go south. And you go up.

hhmmmmmm I think some more giant culture could be a fun thing to explore and what is with
It used to say on the UESP Dwemer page that they were called Dwarves by the Giants, the Ehlnofey of the Velothi mountains, which would mean they have been around just about forever, but they changed it for reasons unknown.
I believe one of the loading screen tips refers to them as "distant cousins." Given the fact the ancient Nords are clearly closer to common day Nords than common day Giants, one could argue that they're an evolutionary step up... or down... depending on how you want to make that argument.
Our modern day human species produces giants from time to time, and we're certainly not as naturally robust and hardy as the Nords.
Giants come from Atmora and are distantly related to men. They lived in Atmora with the Nords, fled with them to Skyrim, then they had a falling out and didn't take to each other for centuries. When they made contact again, they were both completely different and communication was almost impossible. So they went their separate ways.
From J?tunheimr. Also, look at the very, very similar http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/30/Louis_Huard_-_Giant_Skrymir_and_Thor.jpg at the bottom. Skyrim much? Maybe devs got inspired by this when thinking up the Nord's province?

I tried to talk to one when the game first came out. Apparently I offended him.
The Oblivion Gates. Children pop out of Oblivion Gates, and so does everything else. This is how everything is born in gameplay. Lore is a different story.
Of course they are! Arkay needs something with some idea of how men and mer treat children, after all. Khajiit babies fall from the moon. Argonian babies are shot out a tree.
