Where is my Hard Drive?

Post » Tue Dec 06, 2011 12:38 pm

Hey guys, I have a laptop. A few weeks ago I got a 2nd hard drive so when I go on my explorer screen, I would have a C drive, D drive and a G drive with E as my Disk Drive. Well now I can't find my G drive, but something called a BD Rom drive. I am guessing that is for Blue Ray but I never had it before ever. Did my son screw around my computer perchance? How can I get rid of this BD Rom Drive and find my hard drive again?

I am not computer savy so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Have you tried restarting?

Run diskmgmt.msc, take a screenshot of it, and post it here

Otherwise there's a decent amount of software out there that creates a virtual drive for mounting ISOs on Windows. Did you install any of these?

Hmm... something like this happened when I installed a second hard drive. Windows wouldn't display it.

Assuming you're using W7. Open up the startmenu, type in "Disk Management" without the quotes and press enter.

You should see all drives installed on your computer. With their corresponding drive letter. Main hard drive is usually labelled C:. There should be one without a letter. Right click on that one, click "Change Drive Letters and Paths". You should be able to set a letter for the drive. If that's not it, then I can't help you haha

Yes I have restarted my laptop, first thing I did. I don't know nothing about virtual drives and I don't have anything like that. I will see if I can post a screenshot.

You think you can slip by with clever double-negatives, but I caught you! Now spill your knowledge of virtual drives or I'll feed you to the flash drives!

You are the one who mentioned virtual drive. :P I have googled what you said and now I see what you mean. I have right clicked on it, and some how got it gone now. Never seen it before though so that is so weird. Trying to host a pic now so you can see.

Here is the http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l47/hsojvvad/screenshot.jpg.

So if I am reading this right, it is only reading one hard drive that is partioned or broken down into two smaller hard drives correct? Once my wife stops using the laptop, I will shut it down and remove the hard drive and put it back in, maybe it came loose? I hope it didn't break or burn out (or what ever they do) I just got it a few months ago brand new.

*edit* I have powered down the lap top, took the battery out, took the hard drive out and put it back it. Everything seems to be ok now.

Thanks Defron and Trira for your help. You showing me that screen you told me to go to, and looking at it, made me think to take the HD out and put it back in again. Maybe it got loose some how.

Also thanks again defron for mentioning about virtual drives. It got rid of the BD Drive. I see something called deamon tools installed on my laptop. Now it's time to speak to the kids to see what they are doing to my laptop.

Thanks everyone for the help.

Daemon tools is meant to emulate CD/DVD's. I think it's time to set up yourself an admin account and let the kids play around as guest :P.

Yes I think you are right Sgt Deacon. I just didn't like having to put in my password all the time, but now I see why it's a necessity now. I read so many things that go wrong when an administrator is set up, I am afraid I would lock myself out.

It's impossible to lock yourself out of windows. There are a billion and one tools to overwrite/reset/crack Windows passwords
