Where do mod users usually have their keyboard keys?

Post » Mon May 28, 2012 8:08 am

Hey folks,

I'd like to have some input where people have their default keyboard keys settled. Please also write where you've put your custom keys and hotkeys if a mod imports them.
I primarly try to figure out which keyboard layout WSAD players use, but input from good old arrow key players and leftys is also welcome.

Not only do I need this to determine where I'm supposed to arrange hotkeys for WSAD's, it's probably also interesting to share which keyboard configuration different peoples are using.

And btw. Arrow Keyers ftw, WSAD's are noobs...:D

I use the default WASD configuration. And I'm not a noob either.

I'm a leftie and map just about everything over to the numpad (courtesy of http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/downloads/file.php?id=88; never leave home without it). Movement keys, activate, ready/sheathe weapon are all on the numpad. Shouts are assigned to the left arrow key (because it's within easy reach), and sprint is the page down key (also within easy reach).

Wait is still the default T; J brings up the journal, I is for inventory, M is for map and R is spells. Quick menu is the numpad decimal key for when I need to get to those menus in a hurry, but usually I don't. Most of those bindings are leftovers from my Morrowind/Oblivion days. Muscle memory and all.

I actually don't use favorites/hotkeys in Skyrim. I find them about as intuitive as a hippo trying to pilot a boat, especially since I took over the vanilla hotkeys with my sinister, left-handed ways. :P Morrowind's actually the only TES game where I've found the favorites bar useful. Didn't use them in Oblivion, either.

I pretty much use the default mapping except that I sprint with shift and shout with mouse4.

Also, I can't mod and haven't found anything that does this, but if I ever got the chance, I would add modifiers to the hotkeys. (You know Shift+1, Ctrl+Q and so on.)

I remap everything possible to the numpad/arrow key side.
I've never been able to use WASD in any game without actually looking at the keyboard ;)

I've never cared for WASD. Tried it when I first got Oblivion, and hated it. Once I discovered I was able to re map my keys, I did just that. I've re mapped most of them and I use the same general configuration for all my (Bethesda) games. Makes t easier to remember that way, plus I'm used to it now.

Arrow keys for forward, back, left, and right.
Right shift to chage view
Enter to activate an object
Right control to jump
Right Alt for auto move
T for waiting...T = Time out
S for Shouts
F for favorites.
Left shift for ready/sheathe weapon
Left control for sneak

That's all I can think of for now.

I'm using the default controls, except I moved sprint from ALT to SHIFT. That's more comfortable to me.
