Which "adding monsters" mod should I choose?

Post » Thu Nov 01, 2012 3:30 am

I'm using a few mods, but none really gamechangning, just mods like better UI and gfx mods and stuff like that.

I don't want to install programs to install mods, just copy/paste them.

I would like a mod which adds a lot of monsters to the world, which is very stable and which can be installed simply by copy/paste.

Which monster mod should I choose?

Thanks in advance

I'm biased, but I'd suggest either the purist lore-friendly or standard lore-friendly versions of Skyrim Monster Mod - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/16411/

You also need the original version of the mod from here - http://skyrim.nexusmods.com/mods/9694

The original is great, but also adds triceratops and bundles of other creatures that are a little too outlandish and out-of-place for my tastes - so my version removes those creatures, edits names and stats so creatures better resemble their counterparts in Morrowind and Oblivion, and tidies up a few other things.

It adds to existing leveled lists, and is stable - the original comes with just an esp and bsa, and my lore-friendly version comes with an esp and a couple of replacement textures you can just copy into the textures folder (or you don't even need to copy the textures if you're happy with the originals - just copy the esm, esp and bsa into your data directory).

It doesn't add any scripts, so no worries about script issues if you decide to uninstall at any point.

I have another mod based on Skyrim Monster Mod that I'm working on at the moment, but it's not ready for release yet and I don't want to say any more as each time I make an announcement something happens to set me back in progress!

Oh, sounds great, so this mod I can just drop in my data folder like I did with my other mods? No need to install mod managers and bash programs?

I use jackstarr's monster mod and Lore friendly patch and it's really good, I definatly recommend them. Only thing I found is that without using Nexus Mod Manager (or an equivalent program) installing mods can be easy enough, but uninstalling them can be a huge pain in the ass.
