Which Came First....?

Post » Fri Jun 15, 2012 10:12 am

When the video of Bethesda's week of brainstorming was released in December, there was a "floating" vampire lord shown.

So my question is... was Dawngard's vampire scenerio already chosen before this point in December and some dev came up with this idea of winged floating lords or was the floating lord so cool they morphed Dawngard into a vampire story?

Or more sinically... was the video just a mid-point marketing idea to keep our interest and that most of the content was already planned for DLC. It has been a particularly long run-up to DLC now.

I doubt they changed the story just to fit the flying animations. It would seem odd to have a whole series of maps and story based on "some group" being chased by "some other group" that happen to take place in dark, eerie places without thinking they might be vampires.

Whether it was always planned to have the vampirelords in... who knows. In all likelihood, the team have a number of ideas that they're working on in terms of future development, and when the gamejam opportunity came up some of the devs went with that idea as one taht had been floating around.

I don't think this is cynical. It sounds like run of the mill marketing techniques to me.

This makes sense. The pool of ideas for future add-on content and the pool of ideas that developers would enjoy trying to implement probably overlap strongly, so it makes sense that developers given the time to work on whatever they want to work on would work on things they want to put into future content.

Are any of you aware that Beth had other players do this? Most of which was created via Creation Kit and other software.....

Umm false info much?

This is the gamejam bethesda did the first week after release. Todd gave each of the Developers 1 week to do whatever they wanted.

Modders cannot add new skills or do many of the things in the game jam. Things like verlet surfaces required modification of the source code. Something only the bethesda devs have access to.

If you need proof of that you can also find the entire gamejam video on youtube. The one that todd howard is talking about how to make good games.

He says just before the video starts exactly who made it and why.

Edit: rereading my post that may have come across as a bit harsh. Please do not take it that way, as I am not trying to argue. I am simply trying to make sure you know what really happened rather than rumors. (:

No... the devs made the stuff seen in the video. Not players. I hate it when people make stuff up without knowing the truth....
