Which decades do you like, which don't you like? (if any)

Post » Fri Nov 18, 2011 12:46 am

Seems that the world remembers things in bunches of ten years at a time, probably for convenience as we all know that there is no real disconnect between 1999 and 2000 say, but i was just thinking, how very much the world can change in ten years, from anything like computer game machines, music, fashion etc, surely we must all have our favourites, and our not so favourites!

I'm going to pick 1990 - 1999 as my favourite, although i've also ticked the 50's and 80's as i find the visual/audial aspect of them from music and fashion to car design most interesting, the 90's felt like good years for the most part to me, commodore Amiga, jurrasic park, soundgarden and the racoons (kids cartoon) just a few reasons. :)

Decade i don't like, 2000 - 2009, terrorism, war and world financial crisis after crisis, can't think of much else of note for these years.

I've made all the options choosable so that you can choose your favourite decades, if you don't particularly like a decade just leave it un-ticked.

1990 - 2010, I only like these because I have been apart of them, well maybe not 90 or 91 but still, nearly 20 years :D

90's were alright, but not particularly interesting. You have to go back before the invention of computers to have all the cool stuff. I'm talking 1920's baby, jazz and gangsters and sharp dress.

I loved the 80's so that's my pick. Though if I could go back in time I would love to experience the 50's.

I think growing up in 50's America would've been fun, but the current decade is basically the best.

I liked all decades for their own unique reasons. But being a 90s kid, I'm going to have to say 90s. Now allow me to watch Ed, Edd, & Eddy while listening to N Sync and watching a bunch of cheesy slashers like Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer on three different tiny TVs.

Edit: Forgot to mention the fact that I'd be wearing parachute pants and a Nirvana t shirt.

The 90s was the bomb.

I also wouldn't mind experiencing the 50s :)

I'm too young to remember the 60's, but I do remember the 70's. It was a great time to be a kid back then (ahhh memories). Quite frankly, the 80's svcked, but the nineties were really good. the new millennium hasn't been much of anything to write home about.

Hmmm, seems like my best days are behind me. Now I am sad. :sadvaultboy:

I don't necessarily have a favourite; the '70s were fun, and the first half of the 1980s, though I found the second half was much different and rather less entertaining, so it's hard to group them together for me. I wasn't much of a fan of the 1950s but I think Fallout gave me a little appreciation of the culture. The only decade I'm genuinely not keen on is the 1990s, which was very much the "grey decade" for me, 10 years of nothing much happening culturally or otherwise.

Were I able to choose, I'd live my life in 1950's New York, as a middle-class white family man working for the US Air Force or as a biologist, assuming I truly have a future as one (know more in a year). It would have everything I want: great fashion, great music, fear of Armageddon, anti-Communist witch hunt, great discoveries to unfold.

If I'm stuck in this cesspool of Finland, I would most definitely want to live where I am now.

I miss the 80's and maybe eairly 90's, I hate 2000 and above seems like every year it get's worse. The only thing I've liked about 2011 is the new Thundercats show.

I'm rather partial to the 70s, 60s and the 50s from what I've heard

90s were defined by Saddam Hussein, since he defied the US and international community for a decade..

The last decade was defined by the war on Terror, internet 2.0 and ringtones

the next decade... resource shortage, crazy climate change and thinner iPads?

I'm starting to sound like a http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eFTLKWw542g

90s for me.

The 50s would only be cool if I was a white male - which I am - but wouldn't be so hot for anyone else. Where I live, anyway.

If I could go back in time anywhere in the last 100 years I'd pick either the 1920s (the fashion, the music, the culture) or the 1950s/60s.

Which of these decades do you like?

1920s - 1950s America.

1990 - 1999 (not really sure what defined the nineties)

Plastic?

Struggling for ideas for the 90's?!? How about one of the best decades for rock. Nirvana, Alice in Chains, Filter, The Tea Party and so many other great bands made some of their best music during the 90's. If I had to choose a time to live in I'd say right now. I love being at the fore front of technology.

I've only been alive since the mid '70s, so I can't really say much about decades before that. I have a feeling that the movies I've seen don't tell the whole story. :P Might be a bit of a cop-out, but I guess I like every decade for a different reason. I'd love to go back in time and see what the '20s were like, though. Going out on the town to crazy parties every night where everyone is wearing tuxedos and fancy dresses sounds pretty boss.

A lot of us seem to only remember the bright side of each of these decades. We're forgetting the cold war, Vietnam war, and Gulf war. Apart from that, we're thinking of each of these decade as the highly romanticized versions we see in movies.

But that's okay, I'm sure that in twenty years from now, people are going to think every day of our lives was like an American Pie movie.

Aside from pop culture, economic issues, medicine, technology, etc. I suspect that the fundamentals of day-to-day life haven't changed all that much over the past century. I think when you ask people about a certain decade they most likely focus on pop culture differences and forget about things like the number of people that used to die from the flu. :P
