Well, I got absolutely hooked on fallout 3. I played it everyday for months. New Vegas didn't have the same effect, but I still play it all the time. I'm just not nearly as immersed in it.

New Vegas improved upon Fallout 3 in every area. The most in the writing and storytelling, less in gameplay, and the least in graphics -- more or less, improvements all the same.

Fallout: New Vegas is better in almost every way.
The only room for improvement is:
  • Random Encounters
  • Exploring
  • Bugs/Glitches

One of my best buys ever.

I like Fallout 3 more. Fallout: New Vegas was better with weapons and story (characters included). I liked everything else better in Fallout 3. Just my opinion.

Both are fantastic. Fallout 3 is my favorite game of all time. Where Fallout 3 is superior is in setting up a creepy, depressing, post apocalyptic environment. The Capital Wastland is fun to explore while listening to the great soundtrack provided by Galaxy News Radio.

New Vegas adds more factions to interact with and creates a different environment where civilization is seeking to thrive rather than just survive. The companions are more interesting in NV as well.

If you like New Vegas, do yourself a favor and get Fallout 3 immediately.

Depends, if you dont intend on free roam, FO3 as its story is better, but if you want free roam side missions and more variety of weaponry and easy access to it, new vegas as the wastes arnt as dangerous and theres always a settlement around the corner. its better game to get first

I like Fallout 3 as is introduced me to the series, and I think it is an overall better game that New Vegas, New Vegas is a better Fallout game. Basically if you disregard the fact that they are fallout games and have a basis they should follow, Fallout 3 is much greater then.

I disagree, I think New Vegas is just a better game in general.

Between only those two (out of the four+)? NV for everything but art. FO3 has great level design and seems a bit more combat heavy and RPG light (IMO).

**Fallout 3 really can look the part (incredibly well) sometimes ~when out and about, and away from most settlements.

FO3 for me.

While NV has it's strengths, and makes some improvements, the world itself is a real bummer.

The map is tiny, using beef-gating, invisible walls and a narrow winding path to make it seem bigger and draw it out. Few of the locations have any kind of character, most are just a generic set piece an awful lot like the the last generic set piece. Virtually every building in the game is just a prop.

The highly touted "Has more map markers than FO3!" prior to release...yeah there's lot's of mapmarkers -- that go to nothing but a map marker. No buildings, no nothing. Most of them don't even have spawns.

I didn't find the story in either to be all that amazing, so...

Fallout 3 has a much better atmosphere, environment, music, characters and story. Definitely get it.

Both have completely different pro's and con's that you cant really say which is better: :turtle:
Fallout 3
Pro Story flawless, large space, decent diversity
Cons not as many items/weapons/craftable items you would expect in an Apocalypse, biased skill system (speech unused/small guns used)

Fallout NV-
Pros Very diverse, lots of items in every category, more quests, much better balanced skills/perks/traits, plants
Cons Story/faction can be biased (some choices has more quests/loot, not as interesting), smaller world

If Fallout 3 had a better balanced skill system and the same items it would be the better game, but the way you play NV is so much more fun, hands down.

Its down to personal preference really as to which one you like more but if you've got New Vegas and like it then definitely get three.
