My mage character used a few restore magicka potions, but other than that of all my characters I would say that 95% of all potion use was for healing myself during battle. Other than that a few cure diseases (in case I catch something that affects melee damage in the middle of a dungeon, otherwise I use a shrine.). Since I never min/max meta-game my characters I never touch the ones that increase skills or anything else. I usually carry an invisability potion, but I've never used one.

If they don't help me out in battle, or smithing, I don't use them. Also, if I'm playing a one-hander, I don't use anything designed for helping 2-handers, and vice-versa. Leaves me with plenty of stuff to sell.

I only use health potions that I find. I don't pick up/purchase any others.

All of them. I never use potions in Skyrim. If you need to use a potion, you're doing it wrong.

All of them. I never use potions in Skyrim. If you need to use a potion, you're not using Smithing and Enchanting.

Fixed.

I don't use Enchanting either. I did smith my gear to Legendary, but I fail to see how that makes combat much easier. It certainly makes it faster since I don't have to hack at Draugr Deathlords for 20 seconds anymore.

So far, I only use Health potions. Stamina I don't worry about, although I suppose I could hang onto one just incase.

I was selling Magicka potions, but I'm playing my Spellshadow (Mage Assassin), so not for him.

Basically Stamina and Skills Enhancement potions, as every time I've used them, they've not seemed to have done anything.

Regen stoppers and Stamina/Magicka damagers for poisons also go, as they don't seem to do much.

Health Regens and Strength Potions I keep, mainly because I forget to use them, lol.

I only use Cure Disease and Restore Health and Magicka potions. I don't use Stamina or Fortify potions, too much micromanagement.

Admittedly I haven't invested in Alchemy that much with any character yet, but Health buff potions come to mind. They tend to have short duration, and run out at inopportunate moments, which will just make the enemies suddenly get a fatality on you when you thought you had a decent amount of health left, etc. Magicka poison also doesn't seem that effective, since the enemies have large magicka pools, and a single potion of say, 60 magicka damage won't do much of anything.

My sneaky Khajiit thief doesn't use potions, he trades arrows for them so that he can trade them for money at the market.

His exchange rate has been pretty excellent now, averaging about 3 arrows for every potion, though sometimes he lucks into a package deal and gets several potions for one arrow.

The pre-existing potions do tend to be vastly better in some areas than the player-made ones. How can your Alchemy-skill compete with Ultimate Healing's instant full health, etc?

You fail to see how increasing your items base stats to twice their value (or more if you use potions/enchants) makes the game easier? Right.

An easier question would be which potions do I use? I have about 30 grand worth of potions in a chest at home.

Potion of haggling -- my character got rich really fast so there's really no need
Potion of smithing -- I don't see a lot of difference in stronger weapon with this potion..
Potion of enchanting -- same reason as smithing potion

Edit: added reasons

The only ones I use are health and cure disease. I keep one of magicka, stamina and lockpicking in my inventory just in case. The rest are vendored. I must say that early on I keep a resist frost or two since my character is melee.

Another exception - I don't carry them in my inventory but I do use fortify smithing and enchanting potions. This is a big change from Oblivion where I hauled all kinds of nifty self made potions and poisons around and used them nearly every fight. Skyrim's alchemy is just weak by comparison.

I use Restore Health potions mostly so am always chasing down monarch butterflies.
The other handy ones I use are Cure Disease, the ones that increase your encumbrance, Resist Fire and Frost, and sometimes Paralyze and Fortify Barter if I see a really expensive item in a shop I want to buy for less.
