Which Race to play!

Post » Wed May 30, 2012 12:18 pm

AAHHH I've been trying to come up with a Character to play. I want an Assassin type character. I dont care so much about the starting skills since any race can become anything. I'm more interested in the look of my character lol.
Ive narrowed it down my race to Khajiit or Wood Elf(Bosmer). Khajiit Ive traditionally played since Morrowind because I didn't care for the look of some of the other races and they were fast, agile and cool looking. In Skyrim it matters less since all characters are the same speed, only armor affects you speed. Traditionally in other games I play some sort of elf, this is where the wood elf comes in. I also like to play a character that is a projection of myself in the game world.

Why wasn't I informed that the definition of Assassin had been changed to "One who serves dutifully with enchanted bracers"?

Pick whichever one you want to look at for how ever many hours you'll be playing with this build.

lol thats ultimately what it seems its coming down to.

Normally I pay more attention to stats, but its not an online game so I dont need to creat a super uber character.

Between those two... Khajit for sure. Although both Orc or Breton are better.

Given the choice between Khajit and Bosmer assasin, I'd choose the Khajit. Imagine walking through a forest and suddenly having a big cat on your jugular. Now imagine he is bipedal, sentient, and with more options. Yeah.

Still, I agree with the Argonian assasin idea; there's just something inherently creepy about it. I see Argonians as the poisoner type.

I'd go with the Khajiit for a sneak based character in Skyrim because of the nighteye power. Bethesda has really improved the look of nighteye in Skyrim over that bland, washed-out look it had in Oblivion. They also introduced some spherical abberation, which makes night vision a little blurry around the edges, but that seems pretty realistic to me and adds to the immersion. Best part of Khajiit nightvision in Skyrim is that it is a power, so you can activate and deactivate it without sheathing either of your dual daggers as you are creeping up on your target, using the same button as your shouts. Any other race in Skyrim would have to use a potion or a spell for night vision, and neither of those can be deactivated the way the Khajiit nightvision can when you enter bright areas. Plus, using a spell in Skyrim can draw a lot of attention, so that is not a good option for a sneak based character. I have yet to be noticed by anyone when activating/deactivating Khajiit nightvision.

On the other hand, most of Skyrim is fairly well lit, so nightvision is not really all that necessary. I just like it.

Breton, each time your assassin dies to a pithy mage, you won't be able to take yourself as seriously- Breton prevents this. EXCEPT for today! since we don't have any magic resistance whatsoever because of patch 1.2.

Well, if you want to have a horrible dark, murderer, pyschopath, the Khajit could be good, because of its strange look in comparison with the more. human looking races. However, Mr. Mittens the domestic house cat killer isnt the most terrifying thing.

Seeing as how Destruction is a little underwhelming and how you'll eventually have enough perks to branch out into melee perks a bit and how heavy armor can be used for sneak, there's really no statistical reason not to choose an orc. This game needs more diversity.

I'm back from the gym. I like your responses. All the races are cool. My toughest foe in games like these is the character creation screen and the 'showracemenu' comand. If I can get past that enemy I can BEAT the GAME! lol.
I need to just pick something, play and dont look back... until I beat the game.

The other day I had even considered playing as:
Breton because their cool half elf, half humans and kinda cool abilities,
Imperial because I guess their the 'all around' character that any beginner can pick and play.
and Nord only because ... were in Nord lands.
