Which is the Best Race?

Post » Wed Jun 13, 2012 3:33 am

I hear you man. A good khajiit can sneak with a dagger, but a great Khajiit can sneak with a warhammer. Lol

That's what I did earlier! in some place full of mercenaries, black briar lodge. Was sneaking around and an orc mercenary went to wake up, so I hit him with the daedric warhammer and said "go back to sleep" :b

I'm curious - are there distinct advantages or disadvantages for the races BECAUSE OF THE LOCATION?

As a dunmer, I found my wanderings in the dunmer section of Windhelm did not give me any special quests or advantages in dealing with the locals.

Does being Khajiit help when dealing with the caravans? Or being orc help when dealing with the orc strongholds, or any other location where there are some or many orcs?

Nope. That's one of the biggest complaints of this game is its issues with immersion on things like this

That's a shame. The developers included a huge amount of content, but the overall integration is not perfect.

Well, can't fault them too much, it must have been a stunning workload.

Need lots of DLC, though. You have no one to blame but yourselves, bethesda - you've turned us all into TES Skyrim chem fiends....... ;-)

Pfft clearly the Dunmer are the best race to grace Nirn....kidding :P

There is no such thing as a best race, each race has their own pros and cons that make them strong and weak.

Whichever one you think looks the best. Race really is a minor thing.

When you play a race, the NPC's will treat you differently depending on who you are. The Nord of course is at home, so you'll get the most comfortable welcome. A Khajiit are lots of the times mistaken for a thief, then again most players play Khajiit because they want to be a thief. High Elves are often hated in Skyrim because the Nords had a war with the High Elves, AND the Thalmor Embassy have just taken post up with the Imperials and started making people's lives miserable. But do you get any environmental bonuses? I don't think so.

In previous TES games, my favorite race was always Breton, with Dunmer coming in at close second.

At the very bottom of my list was Altmer, and second to last were Nords. So Nords were always my "almost" most hated race.

However, since Skyrim, NORDS have become my absolute favorite race.

I wont role any other race than Nord.

Reason for it, is because I believe they look the best. Their faces look the most realistic and awesome IMO.

I agree with the OP's evaluation of Bretons, and would agree they are my favorite race in Skyrim, and best fit my playstyle.

That said, my favorite racial ability - in theory - is the Wood Elf Command Animal. Unfortunately, the way it actually pans out, not so much just because there aren't enough animals in Skyrim, and it wouldn't have any regular strategic benefit, but in theory it's my favorite racial.

Bretons and Wood Elves are my favorite races, as well as Redguards. My favorite racial abilities would be the Wood Elf Command Animal, or the Orc's Berserker ability, and I kinda like Dragonskin as well.

My favourite is Altmer because I love pure mages. I also think Argonians are unique since they can breathe underwater and their Hist ancestory is interesting.

For me, the Khajiit and Argonians are the best races. Khajiit are felines, and I freaking love cats. Argonians are fun to play as due to their waterbreathing ability. Both are also great for stealth, and I prefer to play in a stealthy way.

I don't think you understand how magic resistance and absorption works. When an enemy spell hits you:
-First the game works out if your magic absorption will absorb it, you have a % chance, you either absorb all of the spell or none of it. Soft cap of 80% for absorption, you can reach 100% using the Bretons daily power or as a necromage vampire.
-Second the game works out (if you haven't absorbed the spell) how much the spell is weakened due to your magic resistance, if you have 50% magic resistance a 40 damage fireball will hit you for 20 damage. There is a cap of 85% to magic resistance.
-Thirdly the game works out how much the spell is weakened due to your elemental resistance, this is capped at 85%.

I'd say it depends on which character I play, but for pure bonuses alone (ignoring look and rp'ing) Breton, Orc and Altmer are the strongest.

Orcs ability allows you to half the difficulty of any fight for 60 seconds, as well as some solid warrior type bonuses.
Breton due to magic resistance and the daily absorption, nice bonuses for a mage.
Altmer due to the magicka boost and the most useful daily ability for a mage IMO.

Altmer, because nothing beats Highborn ability. 100% magic resistence can be easily gained in the game through enchanting and doing the quest for Mara.

85%, you can't get 100% magic resistance as it stacks in a way that 85% is the maximum. But I agree, nothing beats the Highborn ability for an magic using character, orcs coming in at a close second for me.

Khajiit's night eye is pretty handy when exploring at night and in dimly lit caves, but the noise it makes is annoying; I wish beth would remove that sound or change it.

If you think of the Racial Powers, I'd say that Orsimer beats all. Double the power and half the damage is incredibly overpowered. If you normally hit for 100 and a hit will take 100, that will be changed to 200 and 50.
Sick indeed, especially for a heavy, two-handed warrior with massive damage output or dual-wielding.

The noise doesn't bother me so much. I just wish it was more of a "permanent" toggle instead of 60 sec duration. For Dead Thrall (or other "permanent" summons) they just have a ridiculously long duration so they are "permanent" in that sense. If they did the same with Night-eye for Khajiits you could just turn it on and off, like you do now, but it wouldn't run out until you turned it off.

I like most of the races, but to be honest, I tend to forget about the racial abilities most of the time since I have shouts selected. I need to pay more attention I guess.

I'm perfectly calm, I'm a quite chill person unless someone piss me off.
But it was a tasteless joke nonetheless.
