Which three did you choose to join the blades?

Post » Sun Jun 03, 2012 3:49 pm

At the moment I have chosen two which I am more than happy with and I feel are good choices ...

1. Argis the housecarl from Markarth (ideal as I moved my wife (Aela the huntress) into Vlindrel Hall.

2. Mjoll the Lioness (I'm looking after Riften along with Imperial guards now. Her follower Aerin also moves into Cloud Ruler Temple, so you get two for one).

Not sure about the third.

I was hoping for someone who is an Imperial like Hadvar (who you escape with from Helgen) but he doesn't become a follower and don't know of any others.

I was perhaps thinking of someone from the Companions such as Farkas. Interesting to see a Blade who is secretly a werewolf.

I wonder who others have chosen?

For me, I chose:
1. Kharjo the travelling Khajiit bodyguard
2. Lydia the Whiterun housecarl
3. Faendal from Riverwood

Jennessa - From Drunken Huntsman (Whiterun)
Ria - One of the Companions
And the guy you can hire who sits in front of the fire place at the Silver Blood Inn in Markarth. Forgot his name.

All good fighters and not needed for any other quests.

My spellsword is Dibellan, married to Senna and lives in Markarth alone with her. He only has female companions/housecarls (Lydia, Jordis and Iona). He is too close to them to allow them to become blades. He also became close with Ria after becoming harbinger, and refused to recruit her as well. They are his private force.

He selected Brelyna, Jenassa, and Areona Ienith (all dunmers) to join. He isn't prejudiced. He actually likes all of them, and likes having them all in one place so he can easily find them. He didn't like Areona sleeping in the cold tent near the shrine, and Jenassa seated in the drunken huntsmen 24x7. They have all become great friends.

I have not done this quest yet. I have one simple question. Do you get to run as a pack of 4 for awhile, or do you just do the quest and then those people leave/stay with blades (can't use them aymore?).

I was an Orc and 2/3 of my crew were Orcs. Forgot their names, but it is the female Orc from the camp as well as the male follower Orc from another camp. The last was Uthgerd the Unbroken because she beat me up earlier in the game. LOL

I chose- no one.

After their BS over killing Parthurnaax, the Blades can just die out in their temple.

I did the Blades quests before finishing the main quest. So I got to finish the 4 Blades quests and didn't have to kill Parthurnaax. I just stay away from the temple so it doesn't give me the "Kill Parthurnaax" quest.

Does it count if I dead thralled people and equipped them with blades armour?

Because it makes for good decoration.

I finished the main quest and never gotten the chance to recruit people. Then again I didn't kill Parthurnaax, and basically told blades they can go *beep* themselves.

Before I knew Delphine wants you to kill Parth, I decided on these three... (I kept in mind I wanted to balance them out)

Lydia - Tank (sword/shield)

Faendal - Archer

Belrand - Spellsword

I hate the Blades, so I decided to sabotage them by giving them the three most drunken, imcompetent losers possible. Cosnach from Markarth, Benor from Morthal, and Njada Stone-arm from the Companions. Sayonara, svckers!

Shadow chose Kharjo and Derkeethus before he got kicked out.

Lily only chose J'zargo and later ended up killing him as he decided to side with the Blades when I attacked them. :( Poor cat always gets killed.

J'zargo thinks he's intended for greatness and power.

  • Kharjo
  • Marcurio
  • Borgakh
Chose all three followers with some sneak level, and a bit of balance (2melee+1spell). Left Aela available as a follower and maybe for marriage. Also Ghorbash is a good candidate...

For OP: I got Argis and Vlindrel Hall at level 66 because that's when I decided to venture into the Cidhna Mine quest, and I must tell you he's a badass and made me leave Lydia home.

Lydia because I got sick of her eating bread in my bedroom and leaving crumbs.
Kharjo because I got sick of running around between dawnstar and riften and windhelm trying to find him.
Borgakh because Mor Khazgur is in an out of the way area.

The best followers to recruit into the blades for dragon hunts are ones that have high heavy armor, one handed weapons, and block skills because of the default blades gear they get. Most characters that have these skills will also have good archery skills.

Battlemages are good too because they use heavy armor and the weapon and shield doesn't matter because they will stay back and cast spells, but there are only two, J'zargo and Onmund. They are both from the College of Winterhold.

So the best characters in order from best to worst by level cap are:
  • Level 81 cap: J'zargo but he will use sparks and fists in close range, but he will cast lightning and fire spells while the dragon is in the air.
  • Level 50 cap: Any housecarl
  • Level 40 cap: Vorstag
  • Level 30 cap: Borgakh, Ogol, Cosnach, Golldir, Uthgerd, Kharjo, Onmond (Battlemage, College of Winterhold)
  • Level 25 cap: Ria, Athis, Torvar (Companions guild)

Allie is a Nord and she felt having all-human Blades was inappropriate. Delphine and Esbern have serious problems already with lack of perspective and need to be shaken up a bit. So I have the Borgakh the Orc girl who didn't want to get married, Kharjo the non-thieving Khajiit (is there such a thing?) and the Dunmer magic student Brelyna. If there were more slots available, she'd look for a qualified Argonian next. No Bosmer or Altmer as unfortunately members of the Altmeri Dominions are not to be trusted at the moment, and the last thing we need is a spy.

I never use followers with Allie because they are a serious pain when you use a warhammer. By the time you've drawn back and committed, the follower has most likely charged in front of your blow. And one hit from her kills any follower. So they are mostly more of a theoretical and role-playing thing than a useful group of followers. These three all seemed like decent, honorable people. Kharjo in particular is the only person in Skyrim who has ever said that his little fetch quest wasn't worth me risking my life, please don't bother. And he was so polite and nice when being inducted into the Blades, it seems like he feels honored. Borgahk reminds Allie of herself, since she also fled from an arranged marriage. And Brelyna, well, she has the sort of inspired creativity which the Blades could use these days.

So, is it possible to remove the follower level caps? Has anyone experimented with this in mods?

There is only one qualified Argonian and he refuses to stay in the Blades' Temple, which amuses me to no end. Derkeethus can totally see these guys are full of crap.
